Description

The Thomas and Betts TBM45S is a mechanical compression crimping tool that crimps the wide range of 8 to 2 for copper lugs and 10 to 6 for aluminum lugs. The Shure Stake mechanism ensures a properly completed crimp each time. The color coated die wheel rotates into position for a proper dies nest while creating a diamond style crimp. The overloaded soft grip forms to any hand comfortably creating little to know slip while creating a crimp. Since 1930, Thomas and Betts has been supplying tools, dies and connectors. Today with more than 75 years' experience in tools, dies and connectors, Thomas and Betts still sets the standard for innovation, quality and performance for application tooling. Rely on Thomas and Betts for labor saving features, user comfort and convenience, long service life and extraordinary value.

  • Good tool and quality
Works well as described. Great for lugs

  • Very pricey and there are issues
I was looking for a reliable crimping tool. I've tried the offshore yellow-boxed hydraulic tool, the hammer crimper and I own a marine-grade $200.00 crimper with the long arms so I've been "around the block." My main goal was to find a crimper that could make crimps on the vehicle easily and make a hex quality crimp without the wings you often get on the side of the lugs. I find that the overseas tools are often disappointing and poorly made as my yellow hydraulic crimper was. So I stepped up and bought this tool hoping this was going to be my go-to when I do crimps. I'm a shade-tree mechanic who might use this tool a few times a year and today when I received this tool I couldn't wait to try it. For me, it was disappointing. First, there is no table to tell you which color die corresponds to the proper AWG lug so you are left to guess. Strike#1. I searched the internet for 2 hours and found very little information because it seems that T&B has blocked this info from the internet. So I sat at my workbench wasting lugs and wire trying to figure out the color wheel. Strike#2 In doing so, I noticed another problem. If you begin to ratchet down on a lug and you're not in the correct slot, you cannot easily release the ratchet and so you either have to have the strength of Atlas to keep crimping down or nimbly release the Shure Stake lock which isn't easy. Strike#3. For a $200.00 tool these issues shouldn't exist. At this level I expect a tool to function flawlessly and it should be clearly labeled on the tool which die goes to which number AWG lug. This could be a problem especially if you only occasionally use this tool and forget which lugs correspond to each color. I'm going to try the Temco product line, even though it's offshore produced their products carry a 5 year unconditional warranty with a 1 year buy back if you're not happy. In the meantime this tool is heading back to Amazon. ... show more

  • A good smooth crimp with a lot of leverage
A bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. A good smooth crimp with a lot of leverage. Nice handle shape, allowing for comfortable one-hand or two handed operation. The plastic elements feel a little softer then I'm entirely comfortable with for a tool I'm going to have on a construction site, but it is cheaper, lighter and more comfortable than its Greenlee competitor. Having used both, I'm happy with my decision. ... show more
