  • Another great STEM game/activity from Think Fun
My son has many of these Think Fun kits. The entire line-up is wonderful and of high quality. They're made to last! This one was one of the more challenging kits, in a good way. It kept my 10 year old engaged and interested as he tried to work his way through the puzzles. Highly recommend.

  • Fun and challenging
I got this for my daughter, who is almost nine, but after trying it out, I am worried that it might be too challenging for her. I definitely wouldn't recommend it for anyone younger than 8. After reading the instructions, the game is pretty straightforward, but you must double-check that each puzzle is set up correctly before solving it. I messed up on the setup of one and got frustrated that I couldn't solve it. It requires putting the correct piece (color coded) in the right location (there are 56 to choose from, and they are shape, number, and color-coded), oriented in the correct direction, attached to the correct length of the clip, and attached to the right peg. The instructions explain how to do this, and it is easy if you are careful, but it is a level of complexity that would be hard for a younger child. This type of game would be fun for travel, but unfortunately, there are too many small pieces, and the ball is often falling out when you are trying to solve it, so that it would be a nightmare in the car or on a plane. However, it does come with two extra balls in case you lose one. I also don't see them going well in a multi-player scenario. You must hold and move it around to visualize where the pieces should go and play the maze once you have assembled it. You could take turns solving puzzles or even make up your puzzles to solve for each other, but working on the same puzzle together would be challenging. The pieces snap together nicely and hold tight while you are solving the puzzles, but the tradeoff is that they are also quite difficult to disassemble, and I am worried that my child won't have to strength to take this apart independently. Once you have solved the puzzle, you get to play it, and this is where you will need some skill to get the ball to "free fall" from one cup to another. Luckily it comes with funnels that you can use to help you until you get better at it, which will suit kids because it is quite a challenge. It is a fun and challenging puzzle game, and I look forward to working on it with my daughter, and she will enjoy using it for a long time. ... show more

  • A Challenging Logic Game That Requires Patience
I have always been a big fan of logic games, but I must admit that this one seem to be a bit complex in terms of learning how to use them. It is certainly not for younger audience as the box suggests that its for 8 and over. When I first opened the box, it felt like solving a puzzle just to set it up. However, once we got the hang of it, the game turned out to be quite an engaging experience. My son was extremely excited from the moment we unboxed the game. He spent several hours playing with it, which is always a good sign. However, it did take us around an hour to figure out how to put it all together and understand how the challenges work. The learning curve might be steep initially, but it's worth the effort. The core concept of guiding marbles through long free falls is both thrilling and challenging. Even when you place the boxes in the right positions, achieving those long free falls can be quite difficult. My little one and I have made it a fun competition. We take turns trying to master those tricky free falls, and the one who succeeds first wins the round. This competitive aspect of the game adds an extra layer of excitement. One thing to keep in mind is that this game demands patience. It's not the type of game you can quickly pick up and master. Instead, it rewards perseverance and critical thinking. The sense of accomplishment when you successfully navigate the marble through a complex path is truly gratifying. In conclusion, the ThinkFun Freefall Logic Freefalling Marble Maze Game is an excellent addition to ThinkFun's lineup of logic games. While it may seem daunting to set up and learn initially, the rewarding gameplay and the sense of achievement it provides make it well worth the investment. If you're willing to invest some time and effort into mastering this game, it can provide hours of fun and mental stimulation for both kids and adults alike. ... show more

  • A worthy followup to GravityMaze
My sister got me ThinkFun's "GravityMaze" as a gift a few years ago. I had so much fun with "GravityMaze" that when I found out they made a follow up game, I had to get it. The game is a little bit more complex than "GravityMaze" when it comes to set up. The board comes in several piece that snap together. The instructions are clear how everything fits together. I was able to assemble it quickly. The game is similar to "GravityMaze" in that the player is given an instruction sheet that shows which pieces are pre set and which pieces need to be added to the 3D grid in order to solve the puzzle. The game provides a walkthrough on the first puzzle. This clarified a lot of the concepts for me. Once the board is completely set up, the player needs to guide a marble through the 3D maze by twisting and turning the board. In some parts of the maze, the marble must make a jump from one container to another. I found this challenging to do. Fortunately, it comes with funnel attachments to make these long jumps easier. One improvement that I liked in this game is that this game uses a book rather than cards for each puzzle. This makes it easier to keep track of the puzzles without concern of losing one. I've had games spill out of their boxes before, and a book is much easier to keep track of than a deck of cards. I think this is a worthy follow up to the previous game. Having played both, I'd probably gift "GravityMaze" before gifting someone "FreeFall". The twisting and turning elements can be a bit frustrating. I also felt that playing "GravityMaze" builds a great foundation to making "FreeFall" fun. ... show more
