  • Should have a few extra bolts
Style: Caterpillar
My son loves this thing! But after a few of the female fittings pulled out I had to glue them back in. Of course he is a little young but we are currently missing a few bolts. I wish it would have came with maybe an extra couple. The price for what you get is also more than I would have paid if I saw this in person first. Some parts are flimsy, some are sturdy. Overall ok product. ... show more

  • So CUTE!!!!
Style: Caterpillar
I wasn’t sure what to expect given reviews and the price point but we are soooo pleased!! My son was 5.5 at the time he received this for Christmas and he’s been obsessed since! He loves big trucks and everything construction, and the parts actually look like the real deal so him and his dad had a great time looking and talking about all the parts. I honestly feel the reviews are pretty harsh on the break/fix function and features. Yes it’s basic but the whole process of them “breaking”, then having to take each piece off, the motor skills and thought process that brings is really wonderful! And no you don’t really “fix” anything, but once you get to the part that “broke” you push a switch and it goes back to working. Again, it’s not so much the act of fixing, but the skills gained in the process. My son even “drives” this thing around our house. He absolutely loves it! ... show more

  • Plastic parts are cheaply made relative to the price
Style: Bosch
I bought this for my niece for Christmas. She loves running around her dad's workshop and "helping." She enjoys playing with it, even if she doesn't completely understand all of the capabilities yet (she's three). Unfortunately, the plastic screwdriver is broken and slips in the handle, making it useless on screws that are merely finger-tight. It's still usable if you use the little box wrench to loosen the screw first. Then the screwdriver can remove or install to finger-tight. I used the opportunity to explain the idea of a torque wrench (which is a bit much for a three-year-old, but she's very clever). The screwdriver also fits very tightly into it's little holder, making it almost impossible to remove without adult assistance. (I say "almost" because she figured out a way, but it's almost certainly not supposed to work that way.) The little car ramp on the back falls apart constantly. I suppose it's better than having it break, but it also requires adult assistance to pop the pieces back together. The intake manifold was made in two pieces, the lower of which is considerably warped (clearly a failed injection mold). The result is that the grill occasionally falls out, and the bolt that is supposed to hold it to the engine is quite difficult to place, requiring one to put the bolt through the hole and then peer carefully under the manifold as it's installed until the bolt just barely catches. I suppose it's about as irritating as working on a real car . . . On the other hand, she loves to take the headlights out and run around the house using them as flashlights. She understands the idea that pressing the red buttons "breaks" the parts, and she has to press the little buttons to reset them. She also likes to take the sides off and hide other toys in the mostly empty interior. I wish there were a hole under the engine to access the interior, but oh well. Overall, it's a great idea, and the activities are pretty well designed. It's a shame he manufacturing falls short. ... show more
