Description

Ring and Asia Wilde's life is anything but ordinary. Some of their closest friends are endangered monkeys and rare birds. Instead of attending middle school, they accompany their parents (scientists who work to save endangered species) on adventures around the world. They spend more time climbing trees, tracking animal prints, and taking on three-hundred-pound anacondas than they do filling out worksheets. But a research trip to the Amazon rainforest turns into a dangerous mystery when their mother goes missing. Who kidnapped Dr. Jane Wilde, and why? Ring and Asia have the skills to survive the jungle--but do they have what it takes to rescue their mom? Read more

Your elementary kid needs this book!
Format: Hardcover
Roland Smith has always been my go to for action adventure for reluctant readers. I have used his books as read alouds for many years. What is great about this book is that it is all the style of Roland Smith but on a 3rd or beginning 4th grade reading level. It’s not hokey and boring with “flat” characters that are often used in early chapter books. The rainforest setting. Wow! Now every kid is going to want to see these platforms and have that zip line in their backyard. Kids will also learn about animal conservation as well as cultural aspects of the people that have called the rainforest their homes for centuries. Everything he writes is gold in my opinion, but as a 3rd grade teacher of 28 years, I LOVE this book for my students. I loved it so much that I used it as my June Book recommendation. My only regret is that Book 2 won’t be released in July as it would be my July Book recommendation. Happy Reading! ... show more

This book was a good book but very long for elementary schoolers attention span. Had a great story line, though.

Thrilling Adventure
Format: Hardcover

"The Wildes" by Roland Smith should be the next book on your reading list. Imagine an adventure like Swiss Family Robinson, but with a modern twist, filled with ziplines, airplanes, and plenty of smarts! What really caught my attention was the way the author blended his knowledge of wildlife conservation with the story, making it not just fun but also educational. The characters grow and change in ways that will have you cheering for them, and Roland’s sense of humor adds just the right touch of fun. Whether you're a teacher looking for the perfect classroom read or someone seeking a cozy weekend adventure, "The Wildes" is a page-turner that fits the bill. I’m in the middle of Book 2 and it’s just as “WILD”! ... show more

Can be scary for an elementary student
Format: Kindle
This book has a great storyline. It is more of a 6th-8th grade reading due to the violence and kidnapping; however it makes up for that in adventure.

Ecological Adventure
Format: Hardcover
Excellent environmental adventure. Ring and Asia return to camp deep in the Amazon rainforest to discover everyone is missing except their tutor Professor Bob. Plenty of biology information in this, from the Goliath Bird Eating Tarantula to the species they are trying to save the Golden Lion Tamarin. With the help of an indigenous friend, the group goes in search of their abducted scientist mother. The rainforest and its inhabitants are foundational for this story. Tense but not overtly violent. 4th grade +. not easy vocabulary but will appeal to animal lovers. (retired K8 Librarian) ... show more

Another excellent series starter from Roland Smith! I can hardly wait to read about more adventures of the Wildes family. So much interesting information in this book about the Amazon and the plants and animals there. Roland's books are fun to read by any age level! I'll certainly read the next books in this series! ... show more
