Are you working more, trying to spend less, yet still not seeing results? If so, the issue isn’t your effort—it’s your approach. This is where The Wealth Ladder comes in. • Great mix of behavioral info and deep data
This book has an excellent and clear point of view. Nick's take on personal finance is refreshing and unique. This book is very readable and provides clear, actionable guidance about steps you can take depending on your unique situation to achieve financial prosperity. There is a good mix of detailed data and behavioral context throughout the book that makes it a very engaging and entertaining read. I would highly recommend this book to any reader who's curious about either personal finance or the breakdown of economic prosperity in the US today. ... show more

  • “Just Keep Reading” anything Nick writes!
I’ve been following Nick since day one and couldn’t be happier about all of his success. He’s an authentic writer, and his grasp on money and life is truly inspirational to anyone willing to listen. I devoured this book just like I do his weekly Tuesday articles, and I highly recommend you do the same. The best time to start reading his work—and to buy this book (like investing)—was yesterday. It’s laid out in a thoughtful, well-structured way, and the way he weaves together money, life, and purpose is brilliant. I especially loved the metaphor of salt and money in Chapter 12, as well as the storytelling throughout the book. Great quotes, real wisdom, and truth! Like Nick would say: “Just Keep Buying.” But in this case… just keep reading his stuff! ... show more

  • Just the right tone for a personal finance book!
What a good read! Well written, informative, and perhaps most importantly, the tone of the book is just right. Nick never preaches or talks down to you. He backs up everything with research and real-world examples. And he points out repeatedly that money has its limits to building a happy life. Nick also tells great stories. I highly recommend the book, especially for young adults. I’m 70 years old, so I’m probably not in the demographic that this book is aimed at. But I enjoyed it thoroughly, and in many instances, it confirmed what I already knew intuitively. FYI, my wife and I are living a happy life on wealth level four with no need to climb higher. ... show more

  • Incredibly useful--in a big picture kind of way
The Wealth Ladder is excellent. Maggiulli breaks down the relationship between net worth and mindset in a really smart, thoughtful, but practical way. The book allows the reader to locate him or herself within a specific economic context. From that initial structure emerges a series of "mental frameworks" which suggest risks and opportunities within each rung of the wealth ladder. Maggiulli is great at presenting data in an approachable and deeply instructive way. The book offers a path toward learning to better understand one's own financial self--one of William Bernstein's "four pillars" of investing--and in that sense, The Wealth Ladder offers practical, actionable advice, in a pleasantly surprising way. In the final half of the book, Maggiulli offers his own financial journey, looks at the relationship between money and happiness, and pushes the reader to think big picture. This is the best finance book I've read since Lo and Foerster's In Pursuit of the Perfect Portfolio ... show more

  • Wish I Had This When I Was Younger
This is a great book that lays out life’s stages of wealth accumulation and how to manage yourself through each one. I wish I would have had this when I was 20 to provide a better road map for what I was working towards. I have already purchased another copy for my son and will be buying more to hand out as gifts. ... show more

  • Only the Paranoid Survive…
This book was amazing and very explanatory. It was nice to see the vast amounts of data used to support each level as well. Knowing which part of the “Ladder” you are and the potential pitfalls are helpful especially when you become agnostic to certain signs. I recommend you read this book and enjoy the vast amounts of detailed information in it. I had to reread my level because I wanted to understand more about the psychology once you hit that point. ... show more

  • An enormous disappointment after "Just Keep Buying."
An enormous disappointment after "Just Keep Buying." While JKB was a well crafted blend of practical advice, myth busting, and a good read for both professionals and a the public, The Wealth Ladder tries to blend that approach with a more pop-storytelling approach that authors like Malcolm Gladwell and Morgan Housel have taken. The result? A confusing mishmash of information that would really have benefited from a stronger outline and more cohesive thesis to begin with. ... show more
