  • Fantastic Read for Those Who May Not Know Where to Start!
I am not unemployed myself but initially read this book in support of the author. I was surprised by how much the read helped me to reflect on my own career experiences and how I show up in professional spaces. Melissa Fleury does well to support her reader through their own self-evaluation. You discuss and analyze your professional portfolio, your direction, and your acquired skills all as a means of ensuring you show up as your best self. Not only does the author provide reflective exercises for the reader, but she also shows up authentically and vulnerably about her experiences with unemployment making this read a real-world account of how setbacks CAN launch you into the next level. If you are ready to re-evaluate your direction, pick up this read. It's a powerful communicator for people of color. ... show more

  • Great addition to my collection !
I honestly was not sure what to expect reading this book when I got it because I was not currently unemployed. However what I did realize is that this could happen to anybody including myself. This book takes a thoughtful and creative walk through the days - months after being laid off. It breaks down what you need to know and how to handle finances at this time. It was an easy read and literally finished it in a day. The best part of it was the affirmations and reflections sprinkled throughout. This book serves as an excellent guide for Millenials! This is def worth a read and should be in your collection ! ... show more

  • Career Game-changer
Though I wasn’t unemployed, this book made me realize how I bad I needed to change jobs. I wasn’t happy anymore in my current position and this gave me the courage to apply elsewhere. The tips on rebranding your resume, how to use networking tools like LinkedIn and financial guidance really helped. 4 months later I am happy to say I accepted a new position! I would’ve been fine with a lateral move but I was fortunate enough to receive a better job offer with a better salary. I thank Ms. Fleury and the unemployment guide for giving me that first push. ... show more

  • Motivating & Eye Opening!
This was a GREAT read! I enjoyed how the author let her guard down and showed empathy to her readers which allowed each of us to relate in some aspect of the book. It spoke to everyone no matter where you are in your career. The author provides a several tips and tricks to help enhance your elevator speech/personal presentation. It personally made me readjust and ask myself a few questions about the present state of my career and passion on where I’d like to further progress. The scriptures intertwined to tie back to the experiences/testimonies was a nice add. Looking forward to the next book! ... show more
