I got this book because I've been thinking about starting a small backyard flock. The thought of having fresh eggs and becoming a little less reliant on the rest of society has been on my mind lately. What I liked about this book was how it breaks everything down into simple steps. The part on picking the right breeds was really helpful. I didn’t realize how so much could vary from one chicken to another. The part where it talked about building a coop was easy to follow. I liked how it talked about space needs for the chickens and also keeping them safe from predators because I probably wouldn't have thought of that on my own. Everything I've read in this book has been pretty clear and practical so I'm excited to try the steps! This book is useful, easy to read, and seems like it will make raising chickens feel way less intimidating. ... show more

I really enjoyed reading The Ultimate Beginner's Guide to Raising Backyard Chickens. The writing style was fun and easy to follow, which made it a lot more engaging than I expected. The advice was actually helpful to, not just generic stuff. It walks you through everything step by step, from picking the right breeds to setting up your coop and collecting eggs. Honestly made the whole thing feel do-able. Only thing I didn’t love was the lack of chicken pictures. For beginners, having more visuals would’ve helped a lot. But overall, it’s a solid read and super useful if you’re just getting started with chickens in your backyard. Definitely recommend. ... show more

  • Raising chickens isn't really that hard
Format: Kindle
So given the fact that egg prices have gotten out of control, and I live in a semi rural area -- I've been thinking about getting some chickens. No no , not a rooster -- neighbor had one for a few months and it drove me nuts. Just a few egg laying hens. I was a bit concerned about the difficulty of laying it all out there ... do I have enough room, what chickens to buy, how much time will it take -- I don't have much by the way. Anyways, this book is a clear and simple way to understand raising chickens, lays it out simply. I'm going to get some. ... show more

  • Get ready to raise chickens
Format: Kindle
This guide provides sound advice on chicken raising.it also provides links to other resources if you need more in depth information. Recommending contact with other local chicken owners is a great idea. I found the local chicken providers to get my pullets, the local grain producer to purchase my feed and the local farms that sell hay/straw. 4-H clubs and university extension services are also useful. Also be prepared for expenses. Wind and wet weather can be a challenge but there are ways to troubleshoot to protect your birds. And they do fertilize your yard and garden. ... show more

  • Got a chick? Read this book!
Format: Kindle
Ok, before I proceed with the book review, I have an urge sharing the authors style and language - it’s awesome! While reading the book I had a feeling I’m talking to an old (and very patient) friend, who would explain everything to me in a nice and friendly manner. And if I don’t get it - will gladly explain it again. I had a feeling I had someone to help, someone by my side who won’t leave when I need help - and that’s an AWEsome feeling! Now the book - it’s structured, clear and informative. The author will explain the “slang”, will advise how to choose a chick, will help to understand what kind of coop they need and what’s important to keep them healthy. 10/10 ... show more
