The advice was actually helpful to, not just generic stuff. It walks you through everything step by step, from picking the right breeds to setting up your coop and collecting eggs. The author delivers on his promises to give the reader a great foundation of chicken knowledge to build on. So given the fact that egg prices have gotten out of control, and I live in a semi rural area -- I've been thinking about getting some chickens. No no , not a rooster -- neighbor had one for a few months and it drove me nuts. Just a few egg laying hens. Recommending contact with other local chicken owners is a great idea. I found the local chicken providers to get my pullets, the local grain producer to purchase my feed and the local farms that sell hay/straw. 4-H clubs and university extension services are also useful. Also be prepared for expenses. Wind and wet weather can be a challenge but there are ways to troubleshoot to protect your birds. And they do fertilize your yard and garden. ... show more

Ok, before I proceed with the book review, I have an urge sharing the authors style and language - it’s awesome! While reading the book I had a feeling I’m talking to an old (and very patient) friend, who would explain everything to me in a nice and friendly manner. And if I don’t get it - will gladly explain it again. I had a feeling I had someone to help, someone by my side who won’t leave when I need help - and that’s an AWEsome feeling! Now the book - it’s structured, clear and informative.
