Not sure why I even purchased this but I’ll be returning it. First off, they couldn’t even get the page numbers right in the table of contents - it’s off by two pages. So much for attention to detail. This carries throughout. Title says “2000 days of smoke and delicious Traeger recipes” but the book contains a total of 48 recipes; I’m not great at math but something’s off there. There are almost 40 pages of filler info at the beginning about Traeger grills, foods that lend themselves to grilling, pros and cons of gas vs pellet etc. Maybe some folks need that, I’m guessing most don’t; so almost 40% of the book isn’t recipes. The recipes themselves? Questionable. Examples: a recipe for rosemary cheese bread that doesn’t even have flour in the ingredient list, yet the directions refer to “making a smooth dough”. A recipe for Togarashi smoked salmon contains no explanation of what Togarashi is, what it’s like or where you might find it. There are several soup recipes - not sure why you would ever do soup on a Traeger but it sounds intriguing right? Well in the directions for those recipes there are many mentions of using a blender, but zero reference to a Traeger grill - like what temperature would you set it at, for how long? There are repeated references to “press the sauté button” but I have no idea what that might pertain to - there isn’t one of those on my Traeger and I have a new one (it’s my third). So if you like a cookbook full of filler material and incomplete head-scratchers for recipes, this one is definitely for you! Otherwise save your money, you can do better on Pinterest. ... show more

  • Learning to cook on the Traeger Grill
My husband loves his Traeger grill. He is always smoking something on it. This book is great for a beginner as it will walk you through how to use the grill. Plus there is plenty of great recipes. I have never had a smoked pumpkin pie but I think this year we are having it for Thanksgiving. The cookies were amazing and the candied bacon has been made multiple times. ... show more

If you know nothing about Traeger, this book might be (a little) helpful. But really, I think the book feels more like something that might have been put together as a high school fund raising project. Outside of the pretty, colorful, cover, the rest of the book is black and white. Even the cover, pretty as it is, isn't helpful as it isn't representative of how food cooks in a Traeger. There are no flames licking the food... As for the recipes, I personally am not interested in "smoked watermelon" or "smoked brownies". Many of the recipes seem to be selling the "many wonderful ways to use a Traeger" - even if they are far from wonderful. The idea of exploring the many uses of a Traeger is OK but, I might suggest is should have been included in the box with the original purchase of a smoker. Anyway. I bought the book. I read it. The beginning 2 chapters of the book explain what a smoker is and how it works in general terms. The author also explores some tips, tricks, and ways to troubleshoot problems. This is some great info to get you working well with your Traeger. Then there are about 50 recipes to get you cooking right away. You get meat, veggie, seafood, soups, and desserts. Going into this book I had no idea what a Traeger Grill was let alone there was types. This book is definitely beginner friendly. I learned so much like the types; pellet grills, charcoal grills, gas grill etc. Alongside that I also learned the prices for them and fuel, pros and cons and what foods are best to make on each. I don't think I'll ever own a grill but if one day I choose to get one I'll surely make use of this book. ... show more

Great intro, written well and understandable. There are quite a few great pointers on many styles of outdoor cooking. That's where it earned it's 2 stars. The were 3 stars lost when it comes to the recipes. Not only are there discrepancies within individual recipes, but there is also a lack of specifics on grill temps. If it's a Traeger bible there can at least be a temp to set, not just "high heat. The wording seems choppy like it's written by AI or a chat bot. I bought it for cooking inspiration without wasting too much time/money on experimentation. It looks like there will still be some trial and error based on how the recipes are written. ... show more
