  • Good not great
Overall, a nice follow-up to their first work. Although not quite as good as it. Nonetheless, still a valuable tool and helping your child know how to think.

  • Excellent
A welcome book that does not spew far-left ideology and actually attempts to teach logic.

This so far has been a great bool for my child and i. Critical thinking skills and reasoning is not taught in schools in the USA any longer and it shows. Providing your kids the essentials will give them a leg up on the other kids who are being trained for non autonomous work and living. Giving your kids the skills to reason means they can become autonomous sooner. With these skills they can feel free to challenge you as a parent so this is a win win in my book. When my reasoning is tested it only makes me a better human and my child knows she is growing and able to take more control of their life. Great so far in helping me teach critical thinking. ... show more

  • As a conservative Christian, I still don't like this book...
This book could have been so good... and there's certainly room in the market for a title like this, but this is a poor and overly political attempt at filling an obvious void in the market. I have an 8 year old going through 5th grade... I don't want examples around the topic of abortion in my kid's school books. Even a young teen doesn't need that in a text book. Furthermore, many of the examples are just too childish or unrealistic in this book. It feels a little silly and back-woodsy as a result, all with a political overtone to it that's inappropriate for kids of this age. And finally, many of questions and examples in this book are extremely vague. When you go to the back to see what the answer should be, it'll even say "Probably so and so..." or offer two different answers based on possible context. That is not helpful in learning the foundations of things like facts, inferences, or opinions; It only serves to muddy the waters for a new learner. I'm constantly clarifying the book for my child... Overall, as much as my politics are totally aligned with the authors here, I would NOT recommend this book, and we've done away with it after just four chapters. It is a low quality text book that feels a bit like an amateur author's pet project that lacked any real editing. And that's really unfortunate, because the market is truly begging for a book like this without the extreme partisanship, ambiguity, and lack of proper editing. This is a low-budget book through and through, which is fine, unless it shows. And it does... tragically. ... show more

  • A great curriculum add for all learners
I’ma homeschooling mama on of one, public school mama to another, looking for curriculum diversity. The schools in our area don’t teach logic as a subject so I wasn’t sure what to expect, and my sixth grader and I love this book! We read the descriptions and work through the questions together. When we review the answers, the conversation they inspire are terrific! This would be a great topic to add to any young learner’s day. I highly recommend it. ... show more

  • An amazing place to start !!!!
So much effort by the author. My 13 yr old son s**ks at reasoning skills... in a way that scares you to death that he’ll ever, ever drive a car. I’m desperate to impart in him critical thinking skills. This book was a great place to start. We work together daily in 15-20 minutes a lesson, and he actually likes it. It’s helping somehow... God only knows how, but it’s helping. ... show more

  • If you want to sharpen your logic, this is an excellent choise!
I have read the book in order to learn more about logic and scientific thinking. It is written in a clear and understandable language, and I think it is suitable for everyone from about 10 years and up. Each chapter comes with several excercises, and they are entertaining as well as educational. I think this book is a great read! ... show more

  • Note: pushing Christianity
Many parents who are looking for critical thinking books are not looking for a book that pushes an ideological agenda; that would rather defeat the purpose of teaching your child critical thinking. So I was disappointed at the mentions of God in the main text (like, "Be willing to acknowledge reasons that don't sound good. Did you adopt a belief because everyone told you to believe it? Be honest with yourself. Don't be embarrassed to think about these things. If you are sincere in this, God will help you find an answer." page 44). And there was a frankly embarrassing argument on page 51 in favor of creationism that the author seemed to be suggesting was a good argument. I continued with the book with my child for a while (didn't finish), but it absolutely detracted from the quality of the book (especially because I began to doubt the reasoning ability of the authors thinking that rebuttal to an evolutionist was good). It's annoying to have a book pushing an agenda when you're just trying to teach about arguing and critical thinking. I honestly didn't like all the mentions of God prior to these things, either... they were fine as examples, but the far better ones for kids were the silly examples! Those were the ones my son found engaging and I wish the book had stuck with only those sorts of arguments. I would like if it had stated in the description that it was a "Christian reasoning book" and not just a reasoning book. ... show more
