I love this edition of the Schubert/Liszt songs - especially since the poems are prefaced in both English and German at the beginning of each song, allowing for a complete immersion into the artistic vision Schubert was referencing. The binding does allow for a flatter opening of the book so it doesn't require 'mashing' the binding open to keep the pages from fanning or turning back on themselves. So I can see why the series comes in 3 volumes instead of 1 for this very reason. I almost don't need my clip page holder! ... show more

This volume contains the legendary pianist's twelve transcriptions from Schubert's great song cycle Winterreise, along with the four songs of Geistliche Lieder and the beautiful songs La Rose, Lob der Thranen and Die Forelle. These rare transcriptions offer a unique blending of Classical inspiration with Romantic virtuosity. Liszt retained the intense lyricism and emotional impact of Schubert's songs as he transformed them into amazing compositions for solo piano. I absolutely love this book. My favorites are Wasserfluth, Gute Nacht and Tauschung. As always this is a great Dover edition. The notes are not too small and the print is very dark. The book lays open well on your stand. Next to each song in the book there is the full length poem that inspired it. If you are a serious pianist and are interested in playing Liszt's transcriptions of Schubert's lieder songs I know you will get a lifetime of enjoyment out of this book. This is the only version that I believe is available of Liszt's Wintereisse and it's at a great price on Amazon. ... show more

Looked like weird appearance. Looked almost hand written. Hard to read. Not like typical modern day typical book sheet music. Didn’t like the songs that much to practice or want to sacrifice the time to work at it.
