  • Low on Flavor
We just switched to decaf on doctor's suggestion. We're accustomed to a full-flavored, robust bean--no bitterness, no bite, just great coffee taste. Maybe it is true of all decaf, but this just doesn't have the punch of our caffeinated coffee. We're not looking for another one at this point, but we do miss the flavor. ... show more

  • Good Coffe Beans
Flavor Name: Sumatra Mandheling
I have used this brand for several years. Great taste and inexpensive (relatively). However, for whatever reason the taste of the coffee would come out differently each time. I did not know until recently that the issue was with the coffee grinder I had. To achieve consistency you have to use the same amount of coffee each time. This is difficult to do with a scoop. I recently bought a grinder that has a timer function. With a timer, you make sure the same amount of beans is used each time. Once you figure out the right amount (of time) to use for your taste, you get the same great coffee each time. ... show more

  • Ah, finally! An excellent 'upgrade' if you want a truly dark, strong organic roast...
Flavor Name: French Roast
For many years off and on I've been getting the same company's Hurricane Espresso which has been very good and of course is also organic. And, as I wrote in my review on that version, by getting the grind right and the timing as far as waiting 2 minutes after the water boils to pour it into the French Press, letting it sit 6 minutes, gently stirring the top 'crown' into the lower part, waiting 2 more minutes, and THEN pouring, I think I got it the best I could as far as a strong, dark taste with the least acidity. BUT... I kept reading about how people who liked really dark roasts liked the French Roast, and it is rated as actually 'Dark' as opposed to the Hurricane Espresso which is only rated 'Medium' So, I thought I'd try it, and YES! That hit it : ) I do the exact same treatment as I described above, but what I like better about this roast is that it is truly Dark and strong and NOT as acidic as the Hurricane Espresso! Now, some here have made the statement that it tasted 'Burned', but in my lowly and wretched opinion I feel that it is simply truly a very Dark roast which brings out the deeper strong flavour, but without as much acidity, which I do not like. So, there you go! IF you truly like very strong, Dark coffee, then this is the one to get. Just make sure that if for some reason maybe it is not coming out just like you want, be SURE to look into the fineness of the grind (for a French Press it should be fairly coarse, but adjusting the grind and affect how strong/sharp it is) and gauging the time to wait after the water boils, because many pour it right away whilst boiling, but that has a tendency to bring out the acidity more so. And of course, how long you let it steep, AND if you want to try the last step of a light stir and then letting it sit further. GOOD STUFF!! ... show more

  • Quality inconsistant.
This coffee is normally very good, I order it on a 2 mo. schedule, but this batch is very bitter. It's not the norm, but I don't want another 2lbs of bitter. Would prefer a response for a reason and discuss continuous quality.

  • Honestly.. (Decaf French Roast)
This is probably the best coffee I've ever had in my entire life, I had no idea what I was missing here. I french press, drink it black, and have been drinking various brands for over a decade now (Pete's, Seattle's Best, Dunkin, Aldi's, etc). Acidity - Barely any, if that Roast - Deep and Dark but not overpowering Finish - Slightly nutty My only beef is that it came in a plastic bag. I understand why people do this and the economics behind it, but I'd be willing to pay like $5 more if it came in an unlined paper bag. ... show more

  • Nice flavor
Needed something organic and (unfortunately) decaf. I still have my warm coffee in the morning and I enjoy the flavor. I'm not exactly a coffee snob, but I hate overly acidic coffee. This stuff is pretty smooth 👍

  • Sticky beans
Flavor Name: Sumatra Mandheling
Flavor is good but, like others noticed, it is the darkest "medium roast" I have ever seen. The beans are oily and sticky so I often need to shake my grinder so that the beans will flow smoothly. This is a good tasting coffee and a good value.
