Great rain jacket
The North Face Venture 2 is a good, reliable, and affordable lightweight rain jacket. The Venture 2's fit is loose, but not overly so. It's great as single layer rain protection during warmer temps, but loose fitting enough to add a hoodie or other sublayer for slightly cooler times. The under arm zip vents are great for regulating temperature while not allowing water intrusion. In bright light, the lighter green of the camo pattern stands out a bit, giving it a nice modern look; while, in dim light, is a great unobstrusive camo pattern. The seams and zips are strong, sturdy, and smooth. The zips for the under arm vents are a little tricky to operate due to their pull direction (lift arm and pull down to open, pull up to close), but this is not a deal breaker. Reversing this direction would make it easier. The adjustable hood with visor is great for keeping the rain off glasses and rests nicely when wearing a ballcap. One of the few improvements The North Face could make to improve this fesign would be to replace the main zipper with a dual head zipper to allow the bottom of the jacket to open while sitting or squatting. The Venture 2 has two zippable, in-built front pockets and two open inside pockets that are all deep enough that keys, a mobile, and whatever else you carry won't simply slip out. I haven't had to yet, but I am curious about care and cleaning instructions as well as reapplying waterproofing (if and when the time comes). If ever there came a time for me to buy another rain jacket for myself or someone else, I'd buy the Venture 2 again —no hesitation. It's worth it. ... show more

Perfect
I was a little bit worried about the size but it turned out fine. Seems like the sizing is a bit big (both length and width) which worked out well. I normally get XL but after checking out the sizing chart, it seemed like I only needed L, so I did. It was a perfect fit because this is not a bulky jacket. The light soft padding is perfect for in-between, not too cold days like just around freezing temperature. Because of the fit, no air gets through on the arms, neck and belly area. The length of the body is long and covers the opening of trousers. Just perfect! ... show more

Very Nice. Not Perfect, But Pretty Close
For just under $100 one gets a really nice rain jacket. The camo pattern is nicely subtle (though it isn't quite like the product page photos: a little more overall green with less white). In some ways it reminds me of both the 1980s German camo pattern which I liked (though with no brown) or the recently discarded USAF ABU camo pattern (which I didn't). In the end, a nice, easy-on-the-eye pattern that I think works. I can see why various online reviews said it wasn't as breathable as they thought it would be; it doesn't breath as well as some other (more expensive) rain jackets I have. But that's okay because I would rather be sure I'm keeping the rain out than worrying I was sweating a little on the inside. I'm not sure this would be my first choice if I were carrying a backpack. I certainly don't see myself using it to run in or bike in. But in the woods light hiking or hunting...? Yup, awesome. Honestly, this jacket reminds me of some of my military gear. Speaking of which.... Well-made, its construction reminds me of my Patagonia, special issue military rain jacket with its nicely sealed seams, excellent stitching, and quality assembly. One gets a very nice jacket for a C note. But not as nice as it could have been.... Not quite as relaxed in fit nor as good on "butt" coverage or prow of the rain hood. However much I like this North Face, these three quibbles is why it gets "4 stars" from me rather than the "5 stars" I was hoping to give it. In summary, price is good. But the less than relaxed fit (and it does seem to run just a tad bit small; maybe 1/4 to 1/2?), the inch or so too little rump coverage (almost "forces" one to buy the Venture 2 rain pants (which, sadly, only comes in black at this point)) and the inch to short hood brow knock off one star. YMMV. So why not take advantage of Amazon's "free returns" (make sure you check it is offered for the size and color you're looking for) and give it a try? You might find my quibbles to be wrong. I do like it well enough that it won't be going back. That's a solid clue that this jacket might just be what you're looking for. For me it wasn't the grand slam I was hoping for, but it is a solid home run. 4 stars. ... show more
