It's often difficult to find high quality clothing for larger adults, especially in more niche categories. Thanks to Columbia for making a product that is useable by some larger body types. This jacket is very light weight and can be packed into an impressively small (included, attached) pouch. It took me a couple tries to figure out how to do the packing, but it's basically a matter of just laying the item on a table, folding the coat once or twice, and then kind of rolling it up and tucking into the pouch. You can do it more messily, just kind of holding the pouch and stuffing it all in a but at at time, but I found the fold and roll approach gets you a consistently smaller bundle at the end. Has everything we were looking for in a windbreaker. Also, it is rain resistant/rain proof. Packable in a pocket, zippered pockets are great, one velcro closure inside pocket, velcro wrist closures (good over gloves), drawstring bottom hem, although only one pull for the entire hem instead of two, and lightweight. Hood folds up in the collar (hard to find these days for some reason). Looks nice, very well made. Roomy fit around the middle (not a fitted cut), generous sizing for layering. I'm 6 foot, 210 pounds, wide/large shoulders and arms. I ordered XL and I could have easily have taken a large. I decided to keep the XL because it is a good outer layer for kayaking, biking, hiking, and the roominess makes it easy to move arms around. Perfect for travel in a carryon bag. Definitely rain proof. Material is exactly the same as an umbrella. Sleeves have velcro strap for adjustment. They run quite large, so if your worried about fitting clothing underneath it just order your normal size. Zips up easily and has a fold away hood. Very light weight.     • Decent jacket at a decent price

I purchased this jacket to replace a 20+ year old REI rainjacket that was starting to delaminate/disintegrate on the interior. This jacket does a good job of shedding water. I have not used it in a heavy downpour but it worked well in the light/moderate rain situation I was in. I wish it had an internal hanger loop (elastic/fabric loop near the neck) for hanging it on a hook. I am 5'6" at 160lbs. I typically wear a small or medium, depending on the style/manufacturer. I bought both sizes and thought the small fit just fine but wouldn't allow me much room for anything heavier than a long sleeve shirt without being a little snug. Going up to the medium give some roominess which will allow for flexibility in layering and also some potential air movement. I expect this air movement will help with moisture control on the inside. I have not used this in a strenuous activity so I can not comment on durability or breathability. That said, most of these are not all that durable or breathable given what they are designed to do and certainly at this price point. My previous Columbia jacket from the 1990's was getting a little snug, so I replaced it with this. It features an even higher quality feel than my old one. I have been very impressed. I bought a large size, because I wanted to layer under it. I probably could have gone a size smaller, as it is pretty big. Hopefully it will last 25 years like the previous one.
