  • Its OK
Could be better. Kinda like he is getting desperate for work. Seems like a jurrasic park mixed with Jaws and pirates of the carribean.

  • Why the bad 1 star review?? I thought it was great!!
I saw the first Meg movie on Amazon prime, and it was pretty good. Now I watched the second Meg movie in theater with a best friend of mine, and it blew our minds. The action and the writing were great and on par. And I enjoyed it. I noticed the black character that was on lead Jason Stathom's side in the Meg 2, was funny and interesting character development. Overall, it was great and entertaining. I just don't get the "bad" review here? I mean, what's so bad about the movie? Everything was great, and expected as such. There's actions here. And it really shook me up. I had to eat my food, as slowly because it was action packed. Yelp. I can't wait to get this movie on 4k! ... show more

  • After the first scene this movie gets flushed down the trench.
[Note: theatrical review] While "The Meg" was an enjoyable summer popcorn flick that delivered on its promises "The Meg 2: the Trench" deep sixes almost every promise that the trailer and the former movie would make for the sequel. #1 The action for this movie comes from a lot of places, including some fights with the titular shark, but most of the action comes from a greedy corporation using hired guns and men to menace Jason Statham's Jonas and the other protagonists. Then there's some prehistoric dog fish that menace people in water and on land. And, if you thought there was going to be a large octopus providing a significant menace throughout the entire movie for both people and the megalodon then you thought wrong as it's almost a non-issue. Statham gets a little more hand-to-hand action in this iteration but the choreography is not up to par for that type of a Statham movie. #2 The action simply lacks tension. Not all of it is played for laughs but this is a movie where you can take your score sheet and ex out all those who you know are going to die. And as another reviewer commented there is little to no gore or blood which is strange for a shark movie, even a PG13 shark movie. #3 While the first Meg had some dark scenes much of the movie was either vibrant or popped with color amidst the darkness. This movie has little color within its dark scenes and I'd say that over half the movie takes place in darkness. It generally doesn't look good and rarely "pops". I want my dumb summer entertainment to "pop" like my corn. #4 One of the more admirable things about the movie is it brings back more of the cast than one might suspect, not just Statham. But the only character that gets a fun upgrade is the black guy who couldn't swim in the first movie. In this movie they turn him into a fun action hero. The young girl, Meiying, also returns and gets a lot of screen time as the heroine/ sassy teen in distress. Curiously they've killed off her mom off screen between the movies without an explanation and Statham's Jonas is now her default dad and her uncle takes her mom's place. The relational dynamics were odd (to put it kindly) between them especially as Meiying doesn't seem to show any lingering sadness over missing her mom. But we don't go to these type of movies for great acting. Still, it's nice when we get some or we see some consistency in the characters. Statham's Jonas as a dad figure feels overly saccharine. If you really liked "The Meg" as I did and can like even bad shark movies this one is still likely to disappoint you sorry to say. The best scene in the movie is the first prehistoric scene. It's all down the trench from there. 2.5 stars. ... show more

  • Wow. Just wow.
Welp. My 3 year old son bought this movie on his iPad without permission. Probably the best investment we’ve made this year. The jet ski surf scene was worth the frequent frustration of teenagers refusing to listen and Jason playing the same role, be it ninjas, drug traffickers, or Sharks. We’ll be watching this many more times this year! Next time to drink a sip of alcohol every time an AMAZING action packed surprise gets us once more. Shark week ain’t got nothin on this! ... show more

  • I can't believe I spent $19.99 to rent this but then I am in the way of a class 3 hurricane.
I evacuated in advance of the coming hurricane and had time on my hands so I paid to watch this, I did like the first movie but this one is far less about sharks and far more about hand to hand combat, i.e. a basic Jason Statham film. Sitting in advance of a terrible storm and watching this left me bored. I had trouble watching it to the end. It was like "The Expendables" version of "The Meg." The CGI is awful. The underwater scenes are awful. The sharks look dead in every single scene. Jason is fighting dead sharks. ... show more

  • I knew this was not going to be an A list hit. But wow.
Went to see this today. One of the stupidest, most meaningless movies I have ever watched. I know this is make believe. But the stuff they have happen is just so nuts that you cannot see it as anything other than a badly written movie. There are no feelings, emotions, connections, or anything else. It’s a movie about a giant shark. I kept thinking of it as a cartoon. Awful. The first one was better. I know some will like this. I believe it was half-price ticket day. Haha so that is a plus. It did have humor, I guess. ... show more
