  • A great movie for you and your kids!
We had the chance to see this movie in the theater before it came out on DVD (it had a limited theatrical run the month before it was released). We weren't sure what to expect, but I have to say that we loved it! The movie is bright, colorful and FUN! The animation is surprisingly good, and the voice acting top-notch. Usually, movies for younger kids can drag, but this one moved along at a perfect pace, keeping all the kids in the audience enthralled. And I was pleasantly surprised at how FUNNY it was, keeping the adults entertained, too. The filmmakers really did a nice job of making sure all ages can enjoy this. I also love the fact that this movie was done in conjunction with the Starlight Children's Foundation. Part of the proceeds from the ticket sales went to benefit that charity... and 50 cents from the sale of every DVD also go to help them. So not only are you purchasing a great movie, but you're also helping a good cause. And the theme of this movie is not only perfect for the children who benefit from the Starlight Foundation, but for kids everywhere: "I think I can!" All in all, if you have young kids, or are a kid-at-heart, this is a must buy! It's a beautifully made, POSITIVE movie with a great message and entertaining characters. I hope they make toys to go along with this!! :) ... show more

  • My 2 1/2 yr old son cannot get enough!!!
My little train lover is literally obsessed with this movie. It came on tv the other day unexpectedly and knowing he loves trains, let him watch it. there are some 'scary' scenes with the nightmare train, but we watch it together and now he doesn't get scared anymore...he laughs and tells the 'monster train' to get out of the way, we have a mountain to climb. i like that there is this 'scary' element to give us some discussion points and bonding moments during the movie. i also love that he has found his (first, perhaps) childhood favorite. i was soo incredibly grateful that Amazon Instant Video has this movie; it was purchased and downloaded onto our iPad after the first viewing. i am embarassed to say just how many times since he got this last week he has watched, or asked to watch, this wonderful movie! i also love that it is not themed-- not Disney, Thomas, etc. Just plain ol' classic story time fun! ... show more

  • Cute movie!
I bought this because my dad used this story repeatedly to help teach me and my 5 sisters that we could do anything we set our minds to do. I didn't know the movie existed but once I saw it, I had to buy it. I bought one for each of my sisters too. We all love it and share it with our children and grandchildren. Now if I could find one on the Little Red Hen... That great story is out in book format though and it's always great getting the little ones up on your lap for a relaxing read. ... show more

  • WONDERFUL!!!!
This is the cutest little movie!! I did not think that I would like it, but I watched it with my 6 year old grandson, who is a huge train lover! :) This movie keeps you reeled in (no pun intended:) throughout the entire thing. There are a couple of things that may scare a very small child, but for ages at least 4 and up, this is just terrific. This has now become one of my favorite movies ever! :) I would recommend this to any small child who loves trains and who would not be afraid of a couple of tense scenes. This movie teaches about standing up to your fears and not letting anyone get in your way of becoming all that you can be. Two thumbs up on this movie!! ... show more

  • Great for kids who love trains! A little scary at parts
Fantastic movie for little ones who love trains! One warning, there is a scary part (scary for 3 year olds). My son loves the movie but bedtime was tough for a couple days and he kept bringing up this scary character. He still insists on watching all the time so obviously not too scary but just something to keep in mind for the really young ones. Kinda don't understand why that's in a movie aimed at preschoolers. I'm not one of those crazy moms who won't let her kids watch anything either, my kids watch all the normal cartoons and movies everyone else does. ... show more

  • Great Movie - A little scary in parts
My 3 year old son LOVES this movie! It's really cute, but my only complaint is the "Nightmare Train". It's REALLY scary. I was afraid it would give him nightmares, but thankfully it doesn't. I just comment to my son that the Nightmare train is not a nice train and it needs a time out. Now my son just says "look mommy that's the mean train - he needs a time out." Phew... problem solved. I would definitely expect the train to bother a lot of kids though! If your child is really sensitive to these types of these things then I'd probably skip this movie. ... show more

  • cute movie
The first time my 1.5 year old and I watched this was on Sprout. (Wind down time before bed). Usually I have no luck with that, but he sat still and watched it until he fell asleep. He got up the next morning saying choo choo and pointed to the tv. I had recorded it and he sat and watched most of it sitting still. I've read some reviews saying how bad, dark and scary it is. Have you seen Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, so on and so forth??? The only part my son cried at was commercial breaks and the end credits. It's a great movie and I'm glad I got the DVD now. ... show more

  • My sons favorite
This movie is on repeat at my house with my 2 year old. It’s. Asked on the story the little engine that could and it’s well made. The story line is sweet and well executed. Highly recommend
