  • Photos don't do this justice. It's the size of an encyclopedia; because it is.
Maybe the fact it is styled off of an NES cartridge caused me to guess it was on the smaller side but I wasn't prepared for what was delivered. The box it came in was big enough to house a laptop and it weighed several kilos and inside, pristinely packaged safely, was the most gorgeously bound book I have ever owned. From cover to cover, even the gilded edges of each page, the book is gold upon gold; it is a treasure to behold. Every square inch of it's exterior surface is gilded and brilliant. The sleeve is made of a similar material as an actual NES cartridge and I have little doubt it will protect the corners and cover of the book for many years. Something tells me it's not something many people are going to keep filed away in a bookcase though. This book begs to be shown as a centerpiece. Inside, the book is well bound and constructed in a similar fashion as an encyclopedia. It's binding is robust and I don't expect it to show much wear even with heavy use. Even the edges of each page are pristine and cleanly cut with no lines or uneven edges as sometimes happens in modern print books. In short, the book is perfect in every way. Once you get past the cover and start judging the book, it's broken up into several sections including historical, and a database of characters and items. The book even has an instruction manual on the outside of the box, in the same giant sized scale, but familiar shape of an NES game manual. It helpfully advises not to immerse in liquid, or store next to any pots which may be shattered. The art work is top notch and pays homage to the beautiful artwork of the early NES instruction manuals. Half of the fun of owning The Legend of Zelda on the NES was looking at the manual and the maps. In my pre-adolescent mind, the instructions artwork showed me how the game was actually supposed to look, rather than how the limitations of the system could display it. Using my imagination as I played the game, the blocky stand ins for mount doom, became craggy mountain peaks and the overworld became a fantasy theme park cover ocean, sea, and air. This book is like an NES manual, taken to fantastic lengths, and penned with the most fantastical artwork and writing that any gamer could ask for. Well worth the $35. Buy these while you can because I can see these only increasing in value for many years to come. ... show more

  • The Legend of Zelda Encyclopedia "Deluxe Edition"?
I'll be honest with you folks, I never actually read or bought the other dark horse books of The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia and The Legend of Zelda: Art &Artifacts but they are both highly rated on amazon, I do plan on getting them as well. This deluxe edition is just a different cover for the Encylopedia. I do like how they indented in the hardcover itself to make it look like a old school cartridge with an old school cartridge sleeve... The pages themselfs have a gold trimming to it making the outer part of the book look all gold. Then there is also that extra bonus of that instruction booklet which I found nice but won't spoil (it's just 6 pages) The content inside of it is basically a dictionary on everything zelda. It doesn't really explain the lore or the storys, the other two books did that already. What it does do is basically give definitions to all the zelda characters, items, and places. All very nice, tons of stuff to cover. Then it goes on to expand the lore of what was covered in The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia, as well as having concept art, maps, languages, etc. And an exlusive interview. Overall pretty good for those hardcore zelda fans, even though most of these have been talked about in the previous two books already in terms of the artifacts and story in greater detail. But do note there is NO breath of the wild content here, I will explain why that is at the bottom. If I wasn't a collecter but still a zelda fan who owns the other two books, then I would recommend just getting the regular version honestly. The deluxe edition sells itself on noglastia only, it's not really so much deluxe but rather a LIMITED edition version or COLLECTORS edition of the regular book would have been better wording because really an extra booklet isn't very deluxe. I would have honestly given this a 4 out of 5 because ya there is really nothing deluxe about this, but I can't say I hate it either... I do love my hardcover books. Shop smart, I always say. Recommendations - If you liked this book, then look foward to the upcoming breath of the wild book because as I mentioned before this book actualy has nothing about BOTW but instead they are making a whole book dedicated to only BOTW. Also as well as a mario encyclopedia if your into that kind of thing, and their final fantasy books that are also coming. All done by dark horse books so you should already know what to expect. ... show more

  • Awesome for Zelda Fans!
Format: Hardcover
I got this for my boyfriend for his birthday along with Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch. He loves Zelda games and hadn't played that one yet. I figured this book would just collect dust on the shelf. I was so wrong. He has been reading it since he opened it! Since he started Breath of the Wild and dragging around this encyclopedia.. I barely see him. He even used this book to tranlate "Zelda" language (for lack of a better term) by zooming in on various signs and stuff in the game using a key in the book. It's full of information.. he keeps showing me Link's backstory and evolution of looks over the years. I always buy books as gifts because I'm a reader.. he really isn't so I was pleasantly shocked he is so into this book. He actually bought the other ones available the Art and Artifacts and Hyrule History ones which I considered buying but settled on this one. Im glad because he enthusiasticly flipped through the art one and barely gave the history one a full flip through. So I picked the right one. The others of course are nice to have though. If you are on the fence.. get this one. The only complaint is he wishes there was more info on this Breath of the Wild. It is listed but there is not much in there on that specific edition.. but it doesn't stop him at all. Don't let that hold you back... It makes a really nice gift. I finally picked out a book he actually likes! ... show more

  • Can’t get enough!
Format: Hardcover
Words can not even begin to describe how much I’m loving this book so far. I’ve only just begun to take a crack at it and there is so much to read it. It’s honestly a bit overwhelming. For starters yes I will say that there are things in here that are covered in the other two books; although this book delves into more detail. Another plus is it gives more backstory and details to the surrounding worlds outside of Hyrule that the game itself wasn’t able to fully convey. Such as Lorule with it’s customs and how some things came to be. Only thing is if you’re looking for information pertaining to BotW it’s not going to be in here. I thought maybe with the release of this book and how the game itself came out a good chuck before hand we may get something; but alas there appears to be none. Not a big complaint on my end seeing as a whole book is coming out for it but, for those wondering, the answer is: there isn’t. Though I still wish they’d release more on the concept ideas there is a good handful to be found within the book along with how the final design came to be and what influenced it. A nice little addition to be thrown in. My one complaint would have to be the shipping. You can probably see it in the picture but the bottom left has been dented along with a tiny bit of the cover scratched. A little saddened by that but with how long I’ve waited I don’t want to wait for another to be sent. Regardless of all of that, this book will make a fine addition with the other two. If you’re a big Zelda fan I would definitely recommend getting this. You will not be disappointed! ... show more
