  • Great story, endearing characters!
Format: Hardcover
LOVE this series! Love the writing style, the characters, and the storylines. Have read and enjoyed them all, especially once you “get to know” the characters. The very first in the series was a little harder to get into at first, as the reader is introduced to and gets to “know” the various characters. I would consider this series to be light reading but very entertaining. Having said all of that, I have not finished reading this latest offering, but so far so good! ... show more

  • I love this series so much!
Format: Hardcover
Another book in this series that is leaving me with all the emotions. Yes I was already crying in chapter 4. I just love these characters SO much because they are flawed and down to Earth, but absolutely hilarious and smart and I have the best time following them around. Who else would be excited to learn about a bomb at a wedding?! Who else would make me sob because of the intensity of a friendship. Who else would write about the most outrageous things in their diary along with what they had for dinner? The writing is absolutely gorgeous and completely captivating in the coziest way. This plot felt so different and yet perfectly in the style of this crime solving club. I was equal parts stressed and smiling ear to ear. These characters feel like family and I cannot get enough. The ending was completely shocking and I read it twice just to absorb it all. I already miss them! ... show more

  • Osman Has the Touch!
Format: Kindle
This series is wonderful for old people, oldEr people and everyone else. ( I am in the first category.) Plot twists work. Characters are charming, vulnerable and remind me of my family, ie, real life. At least in their fears, talents, lust for life, need for each other. Okay, spies and murders are fun, too. All because Osman is a talented writer who knows that books have to be more than entertaining. His books help us grow old with feeling, if not happily, at least positively. ... show more

  • I loved this book
Format: Kindle
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it highly. Whether or not a reader knows the members of The Thursday Murder Club already, they will delight in spending time with Joyce, Elizabeth, Ron and Ibrahim. They are all such fully formed characters with their human foibles, along with their talents, loyalty, cleverness and interrelationships. A lot is going on in this book. For one, Joyce’s daughter, Joanna is getting married as the story opens. When Nick, a wedding guest, waylays Elizabeth the story is off and running. Readers will then find murder, bitcoin, red herrings and fairly placed clues throughout these pages. There are several subplots. One of these is about Ron’s family; another follows Connie and Tia. There will be some surprises there. No spoiler but I loved something that Kendrick did in the story. These many delights in these pages. Osman is quite sweet at times as he depicts the character’s relationships with one another. There is humor, a good plot, and so much humanity here. Definitely a five star read for me. ... show more

  • The Thursday Murder Club is Back...
Format: Audiobook
It has been a relatively quiet year at Cooper's Chase for the Thursday Murder Club... Elizabeth has been grieving. Ron has been sifting through family matters. Ibrahim has continued to help his special client. Joyce has been busy planning a special event. At the reception, the troubled best man approaches Elizabeth, desperate for help. Without delay, the Thursday Murder Club starts investigating a case involving kidnapping, cracking a code, murder, and more... "The Impossible Fortune" was worth the two year wait. The author's humorous writing style felt familiar, the short chapters kept the pages flipping quickly, and each character's subplot added texture to the story without feeling too busy or overwhelming. It was nearly perfect! I wanted to hug Elizabeth, but she would have hated that. I loved Joyce's journal entries, which are always a highlight for me. I'm slightly worried about Ron, but seeing him with his grandson warmed my heart. That leaves Ibrahim, whom I adore—enough said. This was an immersive reading experience; the audiobook is narrated by Fiona Shaw, who does it again. I've missed Fiona as much as Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron, and Ibrahim. I can't just read the book. Listening to the audiobook, too, is a must for this series. "The Impossible Fortune" has themes of friendship, family dynamics, grief, and aging. I'm looking forward to Book #6, and I hope the wait won't be as long! 4.25⭐ ... show more

  • Together Again
Format: Kindle
Joyce’s daughter Joanna is getting married and Joyce couldn’t be happier; she hopes the wedding will bring still-grieving Elizabeth a bit of joy. Meanwhile, Ron is experiencing family problems, and Ibrahim is busy counseling Connie, his favorite criminal, who in turn is mentoring a young girl whom she met in prison. At the wedding, Elizabeth is approached by the best man, Nick, who indicates that he has a problem that only she, with her special skills, can solve. Elizabeth agrees to meet Nick on the following day, but when the time arrives, Nick is missing and his office has been trashed. And so the hunt begins…. I love the Thursday Murder Club books because of both the mystery aspect and the daily-life aspect; Mr. Osman creates a rare blend of hair-raising adventure intermixed with simple daily acts like baking cookies (which Joyce is particularly bad at). There’s also a great deal of humour mixed with a stunning sense of the losses we all encounter in life, if we live long enough. To some extent, the crime solving that occurs in these novels is the least interesting aspect of the stories; it’s the very wonderfully drawn characters, their interactions and relationships, and their very human quotidian lives that really resonate here. Highly recommended, but start with the first book (The Thursday Murder Club), please! ... show more
