  • This book was a hit!
Format: Paperback
My Canadian great-nephew is 12 and has been playing hockey since age 3. He's huge into hockey. I usually get him a book for Christmas and birthdays and this book looked perfect...lots of hockey trivia and written for older kids. His Dad told me the book was a hit. In fact, there were a couple of facts the nephew asked his Dad about to find out if they were true....he was amazed to learn they were true facts. As his father said, we don't know what we don't know and his son was thrilled to learn new facts, and fun-filled facts to boot. ... show more

  • Seemed like a good choice ...
Format: Paperback
This was a gift for my 13-year-old nephew's BD last month. He loves hockey and plays on two different teams. When he opened it, he didn't seem very impressed, but that might have been because he was surrounded by some of his buddies. I thought the book had some interesting stuff, historical trivia. He may have liked better than he let on. After all, getting a book for your BD is almost as bad as getting clothes, right? ... show more

  • A Fascinating Look at the World of Hockey
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed this book. Even though I'm far from a hockey novice, I learned quite a bit that I didn't know about the history of the game, as well as interesting aspects of the equipment. This book is well written, and the authors do a great job of bringing the game to life through fascinating player and coach stories. The book expands beyond the NHL by discussing hockey leagues in other countries, as well as women and minorities throughout hockey history. Very entertaining. ... show more

  • A fun and informative book for hockey novitiates
Format: Kindle
If you're just getting interested in hockey, and you're beginning to watch it on TV listen to it on the radio, this is a good starter book to have. It tells you a brief history, let you know about the rules, explains the international scope of the game, and tells you many of the greatest players to play in North America. The book is very informative, written well and fun to read. ... show more

  • It is okay
Format: Paperback
I bought this book hoping to be able to read some excerpts as my fourth grade son's classroom mystery reader. I think I found enough material to use. I think the book will be interesting for him, but had the potential to be so much better. 1- a few editing mistakes 2- my son is a goalie, I would have loved to see a goalie player profile- the interesting facts weren't really all that interesting 3- I liked the breakdown of gear (it referenced goalie gear too!) 4- good description of rules 5- it could have done without the graphic references of blades to the neck ... show more
