I ended up purchasing this in september for our elf to bring the first day of december. Based on reviews I had read, I had it shipped to my sisters house so that my kiddo would not see it (the reviews said it would not be shipped in a box, but mine was). I got it for just under $18, so definitely watch the price because I did see this in stores around our town as the season got closer for more than double that. All of that being said, my kiddos absolutely LOVED this and I would have paid the double pricetag for it. This will be something that is out every year now. I was expecting super cheap and cheesy pieces, and though the trees are repeated in the calendar, it was much much higher quality-like something I will save for my grand kids. My son loved this calendar! He couldn't wait to open each little box everyday and after a few days we had enough pieces to start actually playing. For the record, this set really doesn't have much to do with Elf on the Shelf - it's honestly just a little train with elves, animals and trees. 10/10 - I would totally buy this again or for any little train lover to have during the holidays. ... show more

The calendar is wonderful and is more interactive than your standard calendar. Not only is it an advent calendar, but it creates a wonderful display. There is a good balance of elves, pets, and display items. Once completed, these items will be a great addition to our Santa's Village.

The ideal is great and children love the idea of opening up the boxes everyday as a count down till Christmas. The downside is I have purchased for 3 years now and they remain the same . Needs to switch it up .

My 3 year old loved this and my 7 year old said she would rather have had this one than the - more expensive - Lego calendar I got for her. All the toys and figurines are good quality and there is a lot of play in this. And the slots are easy to open for my 3 year old, unlike the Lego ones. Ordered two of these for the grandkids. First order shipped with a nice hot chocolate package attached. Second order was delayed and than shipped with no hot chocolate included. Now I have to choose which grandkid gets the extra treat---LOL
