This book is honestly a great starter guide. Everything is explained in a simple, practical way that makes bonsai feel a lot less intimidating. I do want to mention something, just to be honest for other readers: the book uses a ton of QR codes, and I’m definitely more old-school. I would have preferred a more straightforward layout without having to jump back and forth. I also wish the photos were in color, because that would make some steps easier to understand. I love bonsai trees, the look and feel of taking care of them, but I was always killing them! This was an awesome guide to not only give me the instruction on how to care for these awesome plants but also to help figure out the type that I wanted. Excellent book!

Picked this up out of curiosity, my brother was always into bonsai trees. The book explains the basics without making it feel like some mystical art you need decades to grasp, so that is nice. That said, some sections could go deeper. When you hit a specific problem, you might need to look elsewhere for answers. I’ve been dabbling with bonsai for a while and picked this up hoping it would clear up some basics. It’s actually pretty helpful if you’re new — the steps are laid out in a way that doesn’t make you feel stupid, and the pictures do make things a bit easier to follow. At the same time, some chapters get wordy, almost like the author is trying too hard to explain simple stuff, and I ended up skipping around to find what I needed.
