What would a grown woman want with a chalkboard? This is the question I received when my friend walked into my home office and saw it hanging up. I need this for a couple of reasons. The main reason is the fact that I forget things at an alarming rate. If someone tells me to do something by the time it's time to execute what I was asked to do I have either forgotten a portion or all of what was said. Writing things down on a piece of paper, or recording it into my phone doesn't work for me. What does actually work for me is writing things in large letters on a blackboard that I can't hit snooze on or intentionally ignore. It's very useful. The blackboard can take normal chalk but I use chalk markers on the surface. If you are going to use normal chalk on it make sure you prime the board by running the side of the chalk all over the board and then erasing really well. The chalk will show up very bold after that. I have to say that this is not the type of blackboard that you would find at school but it's a nice, home-use board. It is able to hold my markers and chalk as well which is a large plus. I found that I was able to hold three markers on the board before running out of space which is amazing. You could almost fit four but you run out of space right at the edge of the cap. This chalkboard comes with the nails to hang it up and assembly was extremely easy. Cleanup is easy as well with the liquid chalk markers. Now, I did struggle originally with wiping the liquid chalk off the blackboard. Me being very new to the whole liquid chalk thing and forgetting to purchase an eraser I used a piece of wet paper towel. Wrong move. It smudged and just would not come off without elbow grease. I researched how to remove liquid chalk from boards and I saw advice of using a magic eraser and Windex, none of which I had on hand. I then took a simple sponge with water and it came off. If you are going to use that method with the liquid chalk make sure you have a dry rag handy to dry the board. It will look good as new with no trace of there having been something written there. This chalkboard is excellent for use in your home office, kitchen to write menu's on or even to hang in a playroom for kids to draw on. This was worth the price! On the pics I actually erased part of it with a paper towel and water on the right side of the board. If you notice it's still a little white. This chalk board is amazing. I read reviews for every chalk board on Amazon that is around this size, and I chose this one. I'm glad that I did, too! I purchased the "Liquid Chalk Markers 8 Pack - Bold, Beautiful Colors" to use on it, and they work perfectly. The board is not the typical old-school chalk board material, but it is a more modern twist on the chalk boards that they used when I was in school. Regular chalk and liquid chalk markers erase well on it, and it looks nice with the wooden-looking frame. The board is very sturdy, especially for the price. I will agree with some of the negative reviews here in part, it was difficult writing on the chalkboard at first. But this was due to my ignorance and was informed through a reviewer online that the chalkboard should work fine once it was primed (you take a piece of chalk and rub the side of it all over the surface of the board, then wipe and you're done!). Once I had properly primed the chalkboard, the board wrote just fine. In fact, using Prang chalk or Crayola anti-dust chalk felt even smoother than writing on a real chalkboard and erased much cleaner. Buyers should be aware that the surface is not slate but melamine, a softer plastic-type surface. The board is lightweight and thin. As a result, the board is a bit flimsy when you push it in with your fingers. However, the board does not budge at all when it is being written on with chalk. ... show more

Truly a beautiful board, dark black writing surface and wood 'look' frame (it's more of a composite but looks very nice). We only use liquid chalk markers on it and they work perfectly and are easy to erase. We're buying a second one and are going to swap them out for different days at our restaurant. The mounting holes on the back are a bit limited (and hanging/re-hanging it would be a pain) but I attached a chain with small eye-hooks to the top and we hang it that way. My only complaint is that the chalkboard surface 'bows' back a bit so the board does not hang flush with the wall...but that's a minor complaint. I'm going to see if the second one we get has the same problem, and if not, I'll ask for the first to be replaced. I highly recommend this! ... show more

Great chalkboard that I am using for home school with my son. Good quality. Has a small ledge to hold chalk. It is a nice size and works well for us. Not too big or small. My 4-year-old loves to practice writing on it and draw out stories and he erases and changes things. Has cleaned up well so far. It's not super thick and the wood frame is very "light" so I imagine if it gets stepped on hard enough it would crack but not easily. It didn't come with an eraser but we just use paper towels until I find one in the store. I get it really clean with baby wipes and it hasn't ruined the erasibility of it. ... show more
