  • more than I thought.
Format: Kindle
I feared this may be another fluffy fashion book, but it absolutely is so much more than that! The way Erin blends fashion, and spirituality is unique and truly speaks to me.

  • Hugely Disappointing & misrepresented
Format: Hardcover
I agree with other low rated reviews on this book. If you want to get the transformative essence listen to Mel Robbin’s podcast featuring Erin Walsh instead. I loved her in the podcast which attracted me to this book. This is not a “ styling tip” guide book nor a practical guide to help you dress better or give you ideas on how to recreate your actual wardrobe if you want to upgrade your wardrobe. I felt there were too many referrals to her friends and their specialty. If you are anyway already familiar with people she mentions for chakra alignment, life coach Marie Forleo etc… you will be waiting and waiting when is it going to tell you the tips or something you haven’t heard of yet… I was hugely disappointed as I wanted to read more deeply about her and her experiences. She does mention the method she uses throughout the book but I found it too general. Being authentic and true to yourself is something we know in concept and theory but hard to grasp unless you give more examples. I do think my expectations for this book was different hence my disappointment. If this was marketed simply as spiritual approach to fashion and style I would have been less so. However, I would give this to someone who is very young, high schooler or new interns for inner awareness and for simple encouragement on the back. The book itself is pretty so it will make a nice gift in that sense. ... show more

  • A let down
Format: Hardcover
I pre-ordered based off the very inspiring interview with the author on the Mel Robbin’s podcast. The podcast was much more helpful to me. Unfortunately the book was such a let down. She has some interesting points to make but so much of it felt like filler. Lots of educational teaching about basic spirituality that I felt was unnecessary. I’ve read spirituality books for twenty years and it’s a rehash of manifesting ideas, chakras, feng shui… i love all those concepts but it felt like she was expecting her reader to have no background at all so for me it felt like a slog to have it explained as such over and over again. I confess I have hardly any knowledge about celebrities. I don’t pay attention to their lives or pop culture. As such it felt like a lot of name dropping of people I didn’t know or care about—-but with the expectation that I should know and should care. I just wanted the basics of ideas about dressing and personal style to help me be more intentional about my life and manifesting. While there is some helpful touch on those topics it’s not the strength of the book. She over explains and over teaches and gives so many lists of things that I was left without any clear plan or approach. Yes she has her CREATE method that she teaches but it feels more like she created the method for writing the book so her talent and intuition could be repackaged for other people to use, but it’s clunky and not something that is a quick approach for daily use. The Mel Robbin’s podcast felt wildly more approachable because Mel did the work of making it simple and useful. The golden question on the podcast was “how do I want to feel?”. It was so inspiring to see Mel flesh that out and bring on guests who tried dressing with that approach. Yet that question and clarity doesn’t appear in book as a main idea. It’s hidden among so much other clutter of ideas. If you go into this expecting more of a memoir commentary and exploration of a topic that meanders then it’s a decent book. However if you want something that feels clear, actionable, inspiring, easy to execute and understand, then you’ll have to mine for the gold. I did find more practicality around page 222 on those things but it took that long to get there and I found myself feeling like this small section of the book could have been enough. Actually, this info could be delivered as a blogpost or a mini video course. Maybe that’s why the podcast interview was so inspiring. I’d suggest Erin consider those options if she’s really wanting to bring something helpful and practical to regular people. ... show more

  • An important book
Format: Hardcover
This was disappointing.”the art of intentional dressing” is such an interesting title, I would have appreciated a more intellectual discourse inside.

  • New Age Hodgepodge
Format: Audiobook
Not at all what I expected. Not fashion advice. A bunch of new age ideas thrown together. The narratives rambles on. The author reads the book herself in a monotone. If you want a great book about styling yourself read WEAR IT WELL by Allison Bornstein. I don't usually write reviews but I feel misled and am annoyed I wasted the money. ... show more

  • Wonderful material
Format: Hardcover
Really enjoyed it- listened to the audio book then used the hard cover for reference. It goes deep, but if you take the time to read it, it is really useful and interesting.
