  • I Learned a lot
This small book lays out a ton of information in a succinct manner. Most of it is understandable, meaning you don’t need to be an engineer to enjoy it. I skipped the pages about specific models because I am not looking to buy a car at this time. The book delivers a lot of useful information about the different configurations of EV’s. Very helpful ... show more

  • Electric Car Explained
This is a very clear explanation of how electric cars work. It covers all facits ncluding the different speeds of charging, the time it takes to charge ie 120v, 240v and a commercial charging station. The costs of maintaining a EV vs a gas car. It is very useful to anyone considering an electric vehicle. ... show more

  • A somewhat rose colored view of the electric car industry
This past spring, 2022, I was in the market seeking a new vehicle to replace my aging old Honda Civic. I bought this book in anticipation of getting an electric vehicle. I was considering the VW ID.4 and the Volvo XC40 Recharge. This book played a part in making my decision. A lot of what the book says is valuable and useful. But there are some presuppositions in the book which don't quite jibe with the current state of the electric car market circa 2022: A rather paltry selection of electric vehicles most of which are priced beyond the comfort level of many car buyers. Also, there is the assumption that there are electric vehicles available for sale now sitting on dealers' lots. Most dealers lots are empty, and the new cars that are on the lots are already sold. Yes, you can order a new ID.4 or XC40 Recharge, but it will be at least a two month wait, and you won't be able to test drive one in advance unless you know someone who has one. Lastly, the cars in question have a relatively low range of travel between charges, usually around 200-250 miles. They are good for small excursions of 50-100 miles or so, but trips up or down the east or west coast will be problematic and frustrating. Having said that, the electric car market is here to stay, and will eventually become mainstream. Those who take the plunge are to be congratulated. Just not me, not now. ... show more

  • Great Read
Thanks to Johnston and Sobey for an informational AND accessible read about electric cars. Loved the history section - who knew!? The Buyers Guide section is well researched and helpful. The book overall is a must-have if thinking about owning an electric vehicle or just wanting to read up on the field. Friends have already bought the book at my recommendation too! ... show more

  • User friendly info about electric cars.
I have driven a Prius for many years and I’m now ready to switch to pure electric. This book answered all of my questions about what vehicles are available and what I need to do to prepare for owning an EV. The information is presented in a clear and user friendly way which is much appreciated.

  • Fun and lightweight reading
Bought this as a gift for our son after we'd both ordered new Electric Vehicles. A quick, fun and easy introduction to the word of EVs.

  • Great Book!
I’ve worked in the traditional auto industry for years. This book got me up-to-speed on the electrified space. Also, I didn’t know that there are three new EV pickup trucks hitting the market next year. The Lordstown Endurance looks really cool.

  • Comprehensive overview
Though I would never label myself a gearhead, I have always been a loyal buyer of "Detroit iron". There's just something about the sound and the feel. With the prices of EV's coming down, and charging stations growing in number, and the information from this book, even I may become a convert to quiet, instantaneous acceleration. ... show more
