  • Worth the Extra Cost for Threading!
Size: 8x23" Automatic Thread
I’m a basically a complete beginner to metal lathe work (only about a month of hands-on practice), and I took the plunge on this lathe because of the electronic lead screw feature. Overall, I’m really happy with it and feel it was worth paying more for compared to basic gear-driven models. A few days prior to buying this one, I did get a chance to use a gear driven model & it was SIGNIFICANTLY louder than this setup. Really glad I went this direction for the extra $$$ Pros: • The electronic lead screw is a game-changer. Threading in both metric and standard (imperial) comes out perfectly right away—no messing with change gears or calculations. For someone new to this, it makes threading reliable and straightforward. • The tooling that comes included is surprisingly good quality—sharp, solid, and performs well for turning parts. • Once set up and dialed in, the machine is very accurate. I’ve managed to turn out some extremely nice, precise parts that I’m proud of, even with limited experience. • Runs smoothly and has plenty of power for the size. • So far I've used aluminum, steel (small stuff), brass, plastic/nylon & wood all with stellar results! Aluminum or softer stuff is where this thing shines. I will end up trying more types of steel, but need to figure out a better mounting solution & then also a coolant system. It has the power no doubt. Cons / Things to Note: • The bed arrived with a fair amount of surface rust (which seems to be common with imported machines like this). It wasn’t deep pitting—just cosmetic—and came off easily with a Scotch-Brite pad and a couple hours of careful cleaning/oiling. No big deal if you’re prepared for it. • It would be nice if it included more accessories out of the box (extra tool holders, more inserts, maybe a steady rest, etc.) for the price. You’ll probably want to budget for a few add-ons. • The hand wheels have noticeable backlash, which is a bit annoying when making fine adjustments, but it doesn’t affect the actual machining results or accuracy once you get used to it. Setup and calibration took longer than expected as a total newbie—figuring out alignments, tramming, etc.—but that’s more about my learning curve than the machine itself. The manual could be better, but YouTube videos helped a ton. Bottom line: If you want a mini lathe that makes threading easy and produces accurate work without constant gear swapping, this is a solid choice. I’m very satisfied and would recommend it to other hobbyists or beginners who value the electronic lead screw upgrade. ... show more

  • Great machine!
Size: 8x31" Automatic Thread
It works great! I am very pleased with the quality. The only complaint that I have it that it doesn't come with any kind of owners manual that helps you actually use this machine to its potential. I guess it is assumed that ordering a precision machine, you know how everything works. Well, some of us are not trained machinist and could use some technical help. I'm figuring it out. ... show more
