  • Kerry Hannon’s latest book Love Your Job is not long
Kerry Hannon’s latest book Love Your Job is not long, but it includes an amazing amount of information and good advice. This well organized book takes the reader from ways to decrease job dissatisfaction through making yourself a more desirable employee to asking for a raise or a promotion. Besides well-chosen quotes and examples, some from the author’s personal experience, each chapter has frequent lists of organizations offering additional material, current statistics, a summary of the chapter, and a personal list of things to do. A large bibliography and an index make the book even more useful and the author’s conversational style makes it a pleasure to read. If you are a dog lover, you will enjoy her introduction in which she credits her dog for exemplifying beneficial work habits for us all. Although endorsed by AARP, the information is appropriate for anyone in the work force, particularly those who are feeling a little jaded. ... show more

  • Read through the Love Your Job book
Read through the Love Your Job book. It's easy reading but still doesn't convince me to want to work full time for the rest of my life. I was hoping it would help me deal with the sad reality that life in the US seems to revolve around working a 40 hour a week job with 1-2 weeks of vacation and not a lot of time left for much else. But it is only a book and can't change that fact. ... show more

  • Great book
I thought the book was very introspective. It really made me think about different things I could to generate a more positive outlook at work.

  • Thank you for creating this valuable resource for people like me and all AARP aged people.
It's always a pleasure to read a book written by an expert. Kerry has created an excellent resource in "Love Your Job: The New Rules for Career Happiness." The chapters say it all. They include "Curing the Workplace Blues;" "Creating the Blueprint for Your Dream Job;" "Refresh Your Attitude: The Keystone to Your Love Your Job Action Plan." They end with, "How to Have the 'What's Next' Talk With Your Boss." As Daniel Pink said, "This book can help you cure the career blahs, tackle serious burnout, and get your spark back." I believe Diane Harris says it best when she said, "Another first-rate effort from one of the top personal finance journalists in the field." Kerry, thank you for creating this valuable resource for people like me and all AARP aged people. ... show more

  • Great book if you have job burnout!
I started to dread going to work everyday and found this book. It is more geared toward the office setting, but it still worked for me. I am not in a position to leave my current job and couldn't find anything good in it anymore. I am half way through this book and already am reminded of all the good reasons why I took this position in the first place. The book not only has advice but also exercises to do. It is an easy read and very interesting. I would recommend it to anyone that is not happy in their current job. It definately would be worth reading and might actually make you more happy and peaceful. It did for me. ... show more

  • Multiple Concepts To Like About This Kindlebook
First off, I do understand that it is important to see the good in one’s current job as every job has its pros and cons when it comes to pay, working environment, location etc. Additionally, I am blessed to have a job with fair working conditions in terms of how I am treated by the people at my current place of employment. It is just that I am in the process of working on going from a temporary/seasonal employee to a year round employee. As a result, I was hoping to get ideas from this book Love Your Job by Kerry Hannon for financial reasons as the competition is fierce for year round/permanent jobs at my current place of employment. This kindlebook of Love Your Job: The New Rules For Career Happiness by Kerry Hannon contains help career information as it pertains to making the best of one’s current job, volunteering, education opportunities and more. Additionally, Hannon is also generous with the amount of websites she includes at the end of the kindlebook when it comes to volunteer opportunities, education websites, career websites. etc. The main caveat is that this kindlebook is more for people who are fully and 100 percent certain that they plan on being in their current careers for maybe at least 10 years or more regardless of whether they are a temporary, seasonal, and/or a permanent/year round employee. However, Kannon does gives healing advice on various ideas of enlisting the help of a career coach as it pertains to career andor financial advice which is obviously different from reaching out to a therapist for career andor money advice. ... show more
