  • Great Lens for the Money
Set: Lens Only
I was looking to get this legendary focal length to shoot sports, and left with the age old predicament: do I get the more costly Nikon version? Or get the cheaper Tamron? When I got into photography the Tamron 150-600mm was one of my first lenses, and I absolutely love it. The IQ is good, pictures come out sharp and vibrant. So based on this, I knew Tamron produced some good telephoto lenses. The Nikon version f/2.8G used in good/great condition sells for around what this Tamron is new. I watched so many videos comparing lenses but what I kept coming back to was, even if there was slightly less IQ and AF speed in the Tamron, for the same price I'm getting a high quality lens from a company I trust, with a 6 year manufacturers warranty. It's hard to beat that just for the slight bump in IQ and AF of the Nikon. I've been using this lens for around 2-3 weeks now and ended up buying a second for my wife. The lens is awesome! Unless you are a professional, this lens is the best bet to get what you need! I consistently yield sharp, crispy pictures that stun my viewers (work with a lot of sports moms). I've been able to gain tons of attention and network farther than I ever thought, in a shorter time frame than I could ever have imagined, thanks to what this lens enables me to do. If you're not familiar with these types of high quality, wide aperture lenses, be warned that they are heavy! Much heavier than kit lenses or smaller primes. Make sure you know what you're getting into as a full frame DSLR + battery grip + this lens will easily weigh upwards of 7-10lbs. May not seem like much but after shooting for 30-60mins your arms may not still agree about it not being much! I use a monopod with a Wimberley monogimbal head when I have to stand with this thing for a long time. I've shot on straps too, and think a harness would make it easier. It's far from a deal breaker and not even much of an issue for me personally, but my wife struggled with the lens at first due to the weight. All in all, highly recommend this lens! For what it is, I'd give it a 99 out of 100. What is that 1 point, you ask? The buttons on the side of the lens are way, way too easy to move. Most lenses I've seen have oval, wider buttons that are strong and don't easily get flipped. This Tamron has these ribbed buttons that move up and down, so if you accidentally brush them with your hand or body you can easily change settings and mess up shots! Just something to get used to. ... show more

  • Profesional Lens
Set: Lens Only
This lens is a serious Professional Shooter, even at f2.8 its sharp. Built like a tank and very good weather resistant seals, equal to Nikon and Cannon. You don't haft to be afraid to take it out when its snowing to get some excellent shots. Very nice lens hood. Bottom line its a work horse and ready for what ever conditions your in. Compared to Nikon and Cannon, It will equal or better in some cases and be nice to your wallet. Tamron went all out on this lens to compete and make a name for them selves in the Professional arena. It focus's fast in low light and its spot on, shots are excellent even at f2.8, this is where it nudges ahead of the Nikon lens. The sweat spot is f4 to f8 The back ground blur is buttery smooth. With this 6 year warranty, its a winner. You must register this lens with Tamron to get your warranty. Very professional by Tamron, they really seem to take things to the next level. ... show more

  • I think this was my best option among affordabe, fast 70-200mm lenses for Nikon
Set: Lens Only
I was looking to replace an older, mechanically deficient 80-200, f/2.8 Nikkor which would "jam" up between manual and auto focus & miss the photo. (I like the old lens, but just not worth the cost to fix it). Thus, my shopping began. I was interested in the Nikon 70-200, f/2.8 E (newest lens), but couldn't hope to afford it at more than $2,500.I looked at used 70-200 VRII and Sigma and earlier Tamron 70-200 f/2.8 offerings. Fortunately, I was able to find this US warranty (6 years!) version at the suggested RETAIL, NOT INFLATED price via Cameta Camera here on Amazon. (an aside: Cameta doesn't collect state tax outside NY, I think vs. Amazon does in several states. Also, Cameta was obliterated in NY with winter storm at time I was ordering lens, so when they could dig out, they expedited shipment. thank you!) It's a beautiful lens. feels well made. The footplate/tripod ring (?) seems very stable, but easy to remove, put back on. I can hand-hold it, but does get heavy after awhile, so I plan to use with a monopod when doing prolonged shooting (e.g. soccer game). I was looking for lens to capture sporting events: yeah, it's a tad short for field work: Soccer, football, baseball- but i hope to use w/ DX (crop-sized sensor) camera --D7200-- to extend focal length, so to speak. Also, plan to use with a teleconverter (TC); FYI, the "Tamron SP" 1.4 X TC I already own doesn't work with this lens, so, I will save my lunch money and hopefully buy the newer 1.4X XT model TC in the near future. Also, I use a different quick - release system, so I had to buy an inexpensive "arca- style" baseplate to attach to a ballhead for monopod use. FYI the "Andoer adapter plate" ($12 here on Amazon) works great. link: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00RK2DSIM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I hope to add photos; I work off different computers & the photos are elsewhere. Let me at least talk about the process: I photo events, sports, wildlife, especially hummingbirds- so I need quick AF. THIS IT DOES! as quick as my Nikkor 300m F/4; quicker than the 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 zoom. The focus seems to be spot on. especially using the D750 (FX). I'm wondering if there is a slight focus, softening with the D7200 (DX); will need to set up AF test & double check. I also appreciate that I can focus close by, under 3 ft. That was important for me. I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention something, so if any questions, I can try to reply. now go find photos... FYI: "concert" photos with FX D750; bird, outdoor/pond photos with DX D7200 lens. ... show more
