  • Great for beginners and experienced players alike
My nephew's game has drastically improved and he really enjoys how easy it is to learn from this crap set.

  • Bought for grandson
It took a bit of help but he was able to play against the computer in a few minutes. I can't vouch for the longevity yet - time will tell.

  • Excellent electronic chess set that teaches you how to play
This is an excellent electronic chess set that teaches you how to play. It features a variety of game modes, range of CPU levels, chess puzzles, and a tutoring option. Setting up a normal game is quick and easy. However, I didn't quite understand how the CPU levels worked. It seems like the CPU levels and game settings are mixed together. Instead, they should have had an option to be able to select the CPU's Elo level or similar and have a separate option for selecting game modes. Anyways, the small LED screen displays the moves the computer player makes with the starting space and destination space being shown. The chess pieces and board are quite small, but it does help view the board all at once helping with board awareness. The chess pieces also stay on the board well since they have magnets in their bases. Pressing on a piece when making moves seems to be very responsive and consistently registers moves. A standout feature is how effectively this electronic chess set teaches the player. You can set a tutor mode where a voice will guide you through plays and warn you if a potential bad move is being made or if you're in danger. You can also take back moves if you see a better play or want to get out of a bad situation. Overall, this electronic chess set is amazing for teaching and guiding players on how to play chess. It also provides a bunch of puzzles, a voice tutoring option, and provides plenty of challenge for more advanced players. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • The most fun you can have without a video screen!
This chess board is a lot of fun for chess fans. I've enjoyed playing chess since I was a youngster, and am actually used to playing against computer opponents. I can't say I'm a particularly good player, since you can't know the 'why' of the conflict or who the personalities fighting really are, except as a monolithic opposing player which then turns the whole affair into a one-dimensional struggle. Sorry, I digress! Just give me a REAL geo-political conflict to figure out any day to truly keep me engaged... But there is value in sharpening your skills of observation and predictive maneuvering, even if in a one-dimensional way. This electronic chessboard does a good job at that. It's easy to setup and use, and I like that you get that hands-on feel of real chess pieces. And being old school (or maybe it's just 'old'), the digital readout of moves and the simplistic coordinate system isn't a problem, I don't miss the mouse at all. You could even replace the chess pieces that come with the board with your own of a similar size (another good reason to fire up the 3D printer!). I've only really touched the surface of what it can do so far, but I found it both fun and relaxing to be able to play real chess pieces on a real chess board. Computer still kicks my butt, most of the time that is... ... show more

  • Good beginner chess set for someone learning how to play. Excellent AI and instruction.
Bought this for my 13 year daughter that has shown an interest in playing chess lately. I like this because she can use it with another person (me), or play it by herself, and still get a challenge. I like how the set comes with cards that help explain the pieces and their function. I also like the instruction that it gives, as it explains the details behind moves and how they can be good or bad. There are different levels to it, and when I tried against the AI, it gave me a pretty good challenge (and I'm pretty good at chess). Overall, this is great for her practice, as seeing the pieces physically is much better than on a 2-D flat computer screen. I highly recommend this for someone who is looking to learn how to play, or something who knows how to, and wants to sharpen their skills. ... show more

  • Exceptional AI Chess Set for Practice and Improvement
I recently purchased this talking AI chess set, and I am absolutely amazed by its capabilities. My main goal was to practice and improve my chess skills, as playing on apps can be different from seeing physical pieces on a board. This chess set has exceeded my expectations in every way. The teacher feature is outstanding. It not only guides me through the game but also explains the reasoning behind each move, highlighting why a move is good or bad. This has been immensely helpful in deepening my understanding of chess strategies and tactics. Additionally, the ability to take back moves when needed allows for a more forgiving learning experience. The set comes with cards that provide specific information about the pieces, which is a fantastic learning tool. It helps me understand the strengths and weaknesses of each piece, enabling me to make more informed decisions during gameplay. The fact that the AI understands and allows for castling is impressive and adds to the authenticity of the chess experience. One of the standout features of this AI chess set is its ability to track every move made. This feature has been invaluable in analyzing my gameplay and identifying areas for improvement. It allows me to review my moves and learn from my mistakes, ultimately helping me become a better chess player. ... show more
