The musical ( and theatrical) qualities of this masterpiece are nothing less than masterful in this superior performance. The inclusion of the entire text and the brief but insightful perspective offered by Peter Mark's of the Washington Post are welcome but essentially unreadable additions. OK - my vision is impaired but even with my newest eyeglasses it requires a magnifying glass to read the text. I suppose it is a technological marvel that such microscopic printing even exists. Who cares? It demeans the artistic triumph of the performance. I would have willingly paid double or triple for the cost of this album if the packaging had been even vaguely supportive of the superiority of this extraordinary performance. ... show more

I have been a fan of musicals my whole life and this is a definite must listen. I have also been a fan of Josh Groban since his debut.

The quality of this recording caught me by surprise - not only is the cast incredibly talented, but the orchestra and the recording engineering is of extremely high quality. Highly, highly recommend purchasing this album!

    • A couple of songs left out but still great
A beautiful recording of the new show, but they left out the introduction of Pirelli and the song where Todd is teaching Anthony the differences in hair types. I was hoping for some more dialogue since it is a 2 CD set. The original has a good amount of dialogue. But for what it is the recording is wonderful. Very clear and I caught lyrics that I had never quite heard before. Josh Groban is a very strong Sweeney Todd and sounds very much like Len Cariou. Annaleigh Ashford gives a nice sweetness to her vocals. Nothing really new, but a very enjoyable recording. My favorite part is the City on Fire song....they sped it up just a bit and it works perfectly. ... show more

    • great recording, lousy packaging.
To quote my friend who saw this production...Josh Groban sings the paint off the walls! I have cd's for three versions of Sweeney Todd...Cariou, Cerveris, and Groban. My favorite Mrs. Lovett is Patty Lupone but I'm not sure yet who is my favorite Sweeney. I hate the packaging for these 2 cd's. It is nice to have the libretto, but I can't stand the cardboard pockets for the cd's. Is it SO expensive to provide plastic cd cases? ... show more
