I've been looking for a decent surf hat for years, and finally found what I had been looking for in this particular hat. I purchased the size small based on a measurement of my head, and it fits my head well--snug enough that it won't blow off or get knocked off by the stray wave, but still quite comfortable. However, I have found what many have found and noted in reviews at other sites, that the chin strap for me is about an inch too short. I'm not just talking about comfort here. Rather, if I clip the chin strap, I am unable to swallow and even breathing naturally is a struggle! Despite the way-to-short chin strap, I elected not to return it because I am most likely to rarely use the chin strap--I likely will cut it off. Given how many people I've seen mention the way-too-short chin strap issue in their reviews on other sites, I can only hope that by the time I need to purchase another one of these, they'll be making this hat with a slightly longer chin strap.     • Good sun protection, but high price for value

I see current price of hat is down to $30 so that would have been more palatable than the $45 I originally paid for this hat. Pros: Hat provides good sun protection due to size of brim and neck extension which I have yet to have issues staying connected. Fairly comfortable and Large fits me well -- L selected after carefully reading other reviews on sizing. Dries quickly as advertised. Cons: While brim may be perfect for slow-speed water activities, it does not hold up for higher speed activities like jet skiing where I end up looking like the miner on Toy Story. Also, the only color offered is (or was) black which is the worst option for sun and heat protection. Overall, it is serving its basic purpose, but wishing I had paid much less. I did take the chance based on overall higher customer reviews. Current reduced pricing may be result of more competitive options. Recommend company offer this hat in more color choices, especially lighter colors like beige or khaki. If not moving at high speed, then brim should be fine for most water activities. For jet skiing, I will need to look for another hat with a firmer and likely smaller brim. ... show more

I wish I would have had it when I was SUP ing in Zihuatanejo. I bought it for that and this summer when I either kayak or SUP in the Gorge. It really does provide great protection. I lost a number of hats this past month in the surf in Zihaut, and with strap am assured that I won't lose this hat.
