Great Saxophone for Beginners and Intermediate Players!

First, let me say two things. I am primarily an alto sax player who was interested in venturing into the tenor range of the saxophone. So, when I got this high-quality tenor sax from STRICH, I was very happy to kick the tires and try it out. Second, I have a number of fine quality musical products from STRICH so, likewise, I had expected the same high-quality with this saxophone. I was not disappointed. This is an incredible deal for anyone looking to play tenor saxophone. The instrument comes complete with all the trimmings including an excellent, sturdy and stylish case, multiple reeds, a sax stand (believe it or not), cleaning swab and cloth, as well as a pair of white playing gloves for those who like to use them. The moment I opened the case, I saw that this was a beautifully constructed saxophone and it showed the high-craftmanship of STRICH. When I took it out of the case to use it, I had to do a bit of work to identify and remove all the small pieces of protective cork used to prevent damage to the pads but once removed, I was happy to try my hand at taming the tenor sax beast. While I struggled a bit with some playing adjustments I had to make to deal with this bigger horn, it was not a reflection on the instrument itself but rather of my inexperience. Once I figured out how to change my embouchure and to control my breathing more, I was very pleased with the ease of playing. This saxophone definitely had no airleaks as I put it through a number of tests for this including inserting an LED light into the bell of the instrument and pressing the pads down to see if any light was visible from the outside. It wasn’t. I also know there were no air leaks because the lower range notes were relatively easy to produce without running out of breath. This was a huge plus in my view because it meant that I would not need to take this instrument to an instrument repair technician to fix any such leaks and I could instead simply apply my alto sax techniques to this tenor sax with some minor adjustments from my end as mentioned above. As for the key action, surprisingly, I found it very easy to transition from the alto sax keys to this instrument. I had expected more in the way of stretching my fingers but that was not the case. The keypads are very comfortable and actually easier to play than my Jean Paul AS400 alto sax. I am still learning this tenor range and I can’t say that I have definitively “tamed the beast” but I can say that this instrument from STRICH definitely makes playing tenor sax a joy. I want to take a moment to say thanks very much to STRICH for their continued production of high-quality musical instruments and accessories and I would welcome the opportunity to try any others.

Great beginner sax.

I was pleasantly surprised by the overall quality of this tenor saxophone. For an instrument aimed at students and beginners, it looks and feels much nicer than I expected. The body has a solid feel to it and doesn’t come across as cheap or flimsy. The gold finish is attractive, the engraving adds a nice touch, and everything arrived looking clean and well put together. The key action feels smooth and responsive, and the pads appear to be well fitted. They look like leather, although I suspect they’re a synthetic material. Either way, they seal well and I didn’t notice any obvious issues. The included mouthpiece is probably the weakest part of the package. It feels a little less substantial than the rest of the instrument, but it still plays well enough for someone just getting started. It’s perfectly usable, and many players eventually upgrade their mouthpiece anyway as they gain experience. The hard case was another pleasant surprise. It’s a molded case that’s shaped specifically for the saxophone, so the instrument fits securely without shifting around. It feels sturdy, offers good protection, and is much nicer than the generic cases that often come with beginner instruments. One thing I really appreciated is that it truly is a complete starter kit. It comes with the hard case, stand, neck strap, mouthpiece, reeds, and even extra reeds, so there’s very little else you need to buy before you can start playing. Overall, I think this is an excellent value for a beginning saxophonist or a student joining school band. It looks good, feels well made, includes a quality fitted case, and comes with everything needed to get started. The mouthpiece isn’t top shelf, but that’s a small compromise considering everything else this kit offers.

I don't know anything about saxophones. That said, I am super happy with this. I had no issues assembling it. It looks great. It feels like it's made well. There is weight to it and it's larger than I expected it to be. The case is nice and snug. The strap is nice. I like everything it came with. The stand is cool. It sounds good from what I can tell. I just need to learn to play it now. 5 stars!

For the money, pound for pound, this might be the best way to get into playing the Sax. First impressions are that it’s excellent. The craftsmanship is top notch, the valves fully function, and it comes with everything you need to get started (except a teacher). How does it sound? Well… it sounds excellent. It feels like a good quality instrument, so if you’re a parent whose kid wants to learn the sax, but you’re frightened by the huge purchase price for the “recommended” instrument, you can rest assured that this is a legit instrument for decent money. Why rent?
