These bright gold lanterns have a battery already inside. All you have to do is tear off a piece of tape and turn the toggle switch on.These cast very little light. I ordered the warm gold which flickers a bit. They actually look lovely. I bought 12 and 12 shepherd's hooks and lined them up of either side of the walkway. I also bought luminarias but these look more "finished." It's too bad each lantern must be turned on and off every night: a remote would be great but I don't see given the design how that would be possible. I can visualize using these for years in the backyard, along the driveway for special events, in different configurations on the lawn. All in all, except for the inherent commitment to not forgot to shut them off each night, I'm very happy I bought them. ... show more
