  • Surprisingly addicting and fantastically well designed.
Never played a Steamworld game before but gave this a shot because of consistently high reviews. It is indeed excellent. Lovely graphics, fun characters, with some surprisingly dark twists as the game goes on (nothing terribly frightening but when you first start this game you definitely don't expect to encounter some techno horror terminator/matrix nods later on). But mostly that gameplay! The digging aspect is fun and rewarding with a completely engrossing feedback loop of upgrading your gear. And all of that is in service of a Metroid style world design where new abilities open up new spots on the map. Lots of fun puzzles and secrets to find, great level design, very customizable challenge level for those that want it either harder OR easier, it really is an excellent title. It’s not the longest game, but it’s also pretty darn inexpensive and the 8-10 hours or so I played it were a blast. Well worth the $20 for a physical copy. I know the digital has been even cheaper on the eshop. Well worth a purchase, if you’re like me you will be blown away by how much this game sucks you in. I had a blast. ... show more

  • This was fun!
What can I say? I'm a 44 year old male and I really like this game about a female "steambot" digging away at hard earth to find her friend. Maybe that is somewhat strange-but I enjoyed taking this game out at odd times during the day at work and smashing things up for five minutes at a stretch. The story is pretty simplistic. I really liked the soundtrack and the graphics were cool, but most of all there is just something extremely gratifying about smashing rock and minerals and bad guys and stuff. And then upgrading tools to smash better and quicker. My only complaint is that I wish this game took longer. I also think I will replay this game as I know there was some stuff I missed so, unlike other reviewers, i think this does have some replay value. But a longer game run through would have been cool. ... show more

  • Short but really fun game.
Played through it this past weekend and had a lot of fun with it. Very pretty game and the mechanics work very well. I did not play SD1 so I do not know how this plays as a sequel, but the story is simple regardless. The game has an in game hint system that you can turn off so you can explore the world on your own, and it also has a few options you unlock along the way that can increase the difficulty for some benefit. In total, it took me about 17 hours to 100% it on normal difficulty. If I had followed the story to get all the upgrades before going back to get everything, it could probably take 10-12 hours to 100% but it was fun to do things with limited capabilities before getting an upgrade to make certain challenges much easier. Worth the cost for sure. ... show more

  • Super fun
I was looking for a game like Hollow Knight and this is similar. I really thought it was a lot of fun. There are a few different types of areas and the caves were more extensive than I thought they would be when I bought the game after seeing reviews on youtube. Lots of things to collect and find. Wasn't too hard which was nice. ... show more

  • Good price at the time.
These Steam world games are pricey. I'm glad I jumped on this when I did and it's a great sequel.

  • Fun, but not as much as the original
I like it, but for some reason it's not as addicting as the first one. Jeez! I was playing the original constantly, and I don't typically play games much.

  • Sometimes it’s just nice to dig
Took a couple hours for me to get into it, but this game is fun and addictive. If you like relaxing and mashing buttons to dig and fight enemies this may be for you. I also really like the digging levels in super Mario 2 NES I think that kind of plays into it.

  • Fun but short
It’s was a step up in gameplay from the first one that’s for sure but it’s still really short. It felt like when everything started to get going it was over.
