I now have three monitors: the built-in one, another plugged into the laptop's HDMI, and the third one plugged into the unused USB-C port using this adapter. What a great way to add more screen real estate! It's recognized by both on-board GPU and the dedicated card (the laptop has both - Dell Inspiron-5770). Lovely! Make sure your HDMI cables are long enough. I had two 4-ft ones, and for the third monitor it wasn't enough (the laptop sits to my left, so the USB-C port was too far from the right-hand monitor), so I swapped it with a 6-ft one, no sweat... ... show more

I took a dive in to trying the Razer Phone 1 (not the razer phone 2, got a razer phone 1 for cheap) and decided would try to make it work with one usb-c port. This beauty allows me to charge as well as hdmi game at the same time which is the best of both worlds. The plus is that the audio and the video is ported to my tv from the adapter as well. Have no complaints as this adapter is my go to for my razer phone while in house or indoors so can port to a bigger screen when available. ... show more

I've been using this for 5 months now on a Dell 5830 and at 1st it worked just as needed. However over time the monitor hooked up to the adapter will flicker on and off annoyingly for 3-5 seconds at a time. At 1st I used to be able to unplug the dongle and plug back in with no further issue. However it is degrading more and more as time goes on to where it is unusable and it going on and off every 1-2 minutes. The dongle itself gets quite hot to the touch so this may impact its ability to work correctly. I have other StarTech products I've purchased over time and am happy with, but I certainly can not recommend this adapter. ... show more

As the headline says, this adapter requires USB-C 4.0 or USB-C 3.0 that incorporates Thunderbolt 3 or 4 which has the ability to transmit video and audio through the USB-C port. My computer that I was going to use this on is a bit over a year old and has USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, which does not support video. It took me about an hour of reading to actually determine what version of USB-C actually supports video, which is the reason for this review. There are symbols and writing near the port on the computers that should tell you what kind of port the computer has, of which you'll need to look up the symbols on the net. The computer spec sheet, when you purchased the thing, may also get down to the USB-C version. ... show more
