  • Overpriced garbage
Style: USB 3.0 to HDMI
I've been using this adapter for about a month now and I'm not very happy with it. So I have a Mac laptop that I have connected to two external monitors. One HDMI > Thunderbolt. I've never had an issue with either monitor on that cable. I'm using this adapter to connect the second external monitor. When it works its fine. The issue is when it doesn't work. The screen that is connected through this adapter will freeze up for about 10 seconds and then go completely black for about 5 seconds before it starts working again. At first I thought it might have been an issue with the monitor so I tried using this adapter with the other monitor and the problem just moved with the adapter. I don't know why the adapter does this but its SO annoying. It happens six or seven times an hour. I really can't stress how ANNOYING it is. Very unhappy with this 65$ POS ... show more

  • It works on Linux 17.10 and works well.
Style: USB 3.0 to HDMI
Works well with Linux. Ubuntu 17.10 w/ the latest Display Link drivers on Gnome Xorg. I'll be honest. When you buy hardware for the purpose of running it on Linux you kind of worry about whether it will work or not. No worries with this fellow. This thing works great. On a side note, it also works on Mac OS High Sierra. Not a complain in the world yet. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because the cord is too short for the size of the device. Its not small, which means it would do well having enough cord to relocate the device behind the computer. ... show more

  • Does not support rotation on M1 Macs
Style: USB 3.0 to HDMI
I received my usb32hdpro today, installing Display Manager 1.5.0 from the StarTech website. The compatibility data says it work with an m1 mac mini mac os Monterey beta, and I'm confirming that it also works with Monterey macOS 12.0.1 However - I bought this so I could have my third monitor in portrait mode, and 270° rotation and 90° rotation modes are not supported by StarTech on M1 Macs. (StarTech says this feature is under development.) So, it works, just not for my use case. ... show more

  • Third Screen: Works Like a Champ!
Style: USB 3.0 to HDMI
Bought the StarTech USB32HDPRO to add a third screen to a MacBook Air 2014 running Mojave 10.14.1. Connecting one screen (27 inch Samsung) to the Thunderbolt port of the MacBook I used the StarTech to connect the second Samsung monitor (and third screen). Download of drivers and installation software from StarTech site was a breeze, selecting the set for my operating system. I messed up the final step of the installation by not allowing MacBook security access to the drivers... 1 wrong click...my bad. StarTech technical support patiently walked me through the correction process and assisted with the screen configuration. (Tech support gets a separate 5 star rating, no long wait, clear instructions and very patient). It really makes a huge difference to be able to work with the larger screens and this device makes it really simple...very pleased. ... show more

  • Dual 30" on 11" MacBook Air - Mac OS X 10.9 and 10.10 Yosemite compatibility and comparison
Style: USB 3.0 to DVI
I purchased this prior to Yosemite when I was on 10.9 and was fearful of upgrading to 10.10 and not having the drivers be compatible. I bit the bullet tonight and fortunate that everything works as before and feels slightly snappier. Here's my current setup: 11" MacBook Air (Mid-2013) with 8GB RAM and 1.7GHz Intel i7 (2) 30" Displays at 2560x1600 resolution with DisplayPort (1) CalTech (http://amzn.com/B00G69FC48) Since the 11" MacBook Air only has one Thunderbolt, but more specifically, one DisplayPort, I had to buy this USB 3.0 video adapter to run my 3rd display. So I have a Thunderbolt cable going into the CalDigit Thunderbolt Station, then from there, I have a displayPort going into Display #1 and the USB 3.0 to DisplayPort adapter going into Display #2. I also run the MacBook Air closed, but I could use it as a 3rd display if I wanted to. To get things to work, I needed to run the 2.3 Beta Mac Drivers that were 2.3 Beta from the manufacturer's website while in 10.9 to get things to work. It was useable, as long as you didn't need very fast frame rates. Now that I upgraded to 10.10, everything works and to my surprise, it's noticeably faster than before. UI transparency is not supported well on the 2nd display with the USB driver. Overall, I'm really happy, though because the frame rates are fast enough to browse the web, watch videos, and work. I'm able to push the limits of an 11" MacBook Air until the day comes where Apple comes out with a new 11" MacBook Air that can support 2 DisplayPort displays without having to daisy chain. For those who may wonder why I didn't buy two Thunderbolt displays, I did and it worked well for me, but not for my wife. She booted into Windows on her Mac for work and the Thunderbolt Displays would not work consistently with her remote terminal connection. Here's the link to the drivers: [...] UPDATE 2/12/16: I upgraded to the USB 3.0 to 4K DisplayPort adapter and it's much faster refresh for my setup now. StarTech USB 3.0 to 4K DisplayPort External Multi Monitor Video Graphics Adapter - USB 3.0 Video Card - Ultra HD 4K (USB32DP4K) ... show more

  • I bought this adapter because I need a cheap way ...
Style: USB 3.0 to DVI
I bought this adapter because I need a cheap way to add a second external monitor to my Macbook Pro, which only has one Thunderbolt port. I'm very satisified with this product. Installation of the drivers was quick and painless. The adapter worked right away. When you plug your monitor in via this adapter, there's a momentary delay of probably half a second, then your external monitor comes to life. I connect my monitor's DVI port to this thing, and I get full screen resolution. I only have two quibbles, which together prevent me from giving this 5 stars: 1) I don't know why but my Mac seems to slow down slightly whenever I'm driving a second monitor via this adapter. 2) Unlike with an external monitor connected via Thunderbolt/mini-DisplayPort, which remembers all of the windows that "live" on that monitor's desktop, this one forgets all of the window placements. Every time you unplug this from the USB port of the laptop, all of the windows in snap back to the laptop screen and they do NOT move back to the external monitor automatically when you plug the adapter back in. Other than those two annoyances, it works perfectly well. The price is definitely right. ... show more
