Incredible value. This is another hit for the amazing Fantasy Flight games team. The miniatures are highly detailed and a joy to paint up. The rule set is their best yet and really gives you a gradual introduction into the complexity of miniature gaming. Just the core set is enough to have a small-scale experience. I would have dinged it a star for not including more dice, but for the price, you are already getting a lot and most other company's miniatures 2 player sets (looking at you 40k) have the same number of minis for twice the price. Component Quality: The plastic used for the minis to my mind is better than the brittle plastic for 40k or other table top miniature games. The minis are easy to put together and most are only 2-3 pieces that easily fit in together. Unlike other games, you won't have to hold the glue together after you glue them. The tokens and range measuring tools are typical high quality stuff from Fantasy Flight. The tokens are on heavy cardboard and easy to punch out. The rulers have great little details that make them look like Star Wars ship/droid components. Gameplay: I will need to update this later, but from my first impressions, there is a good amount of depth and decisions in every battle. I love that each scenario offers different conditions and the command cards really mix up the activations between players (many other games are "I go, you go" with a die roll for priority, but Legion gives you options to trade off priority for more activations and adds more strategic depth). I was amazed at how easy the game is to pick up just from the learn to play rules. And everything you need to know about a unit is on the card that comes with it. You will rarely find yourself hunting through the rule book to figure out how to activate your unit. Summary: This game is definitely more on the hobby side for miniature games (eg you will need to build and paint your minis), but it is manageably so. There are plenty of great painting tutorials out there and with painting shades/oils, it has never been easier to get into miniature painting. Star Wars Legion is a solid entry to the miniature war game front, and I can easily see it overtaking other major games due to the ease of entry and lower price point. I expect there will be a strong tournament and casual scene for this game. This core box is the perfect starting point and offers a lot of fun with just its components.

Excellent Star Wars miniature game!
Style: a) Star Wars Legion Core Set
This older version of Star Wars Legion is among my top table top miniature-based games of all time. This system is super fun to play not only for the wonderful miniatures with nostalgic table presence, but also for the relatively straightforward rules allowing for relatively speedy game turns. Building your army with cards and miniatures is a fun choice space, Simpler than Warhammer games, yet enough crunch to pull even seasoned war-gamers in. It’s infinitely replayable with perhaps just a few extra minis or vehicles just to add variety, if you want to buy them. It comes with a lot of minis from both the Empire and Rebellion in this box so you don’t have to buy anything more if you don’t want to in order to have a great time. You’ll need to explore the right kind of glues for the miniatures as they aren’t the same kind of plastic as Warhammer minis. I use a flexible super glue (not the brittle kind) which seems to do ok. Photos include other models and terrain we have added to the game not included in the base set.

As a lifelong Star Wars fan and miniature painter, I consider Imperial Assault and its expansions. The base game is a masterpiece—deep in strategy, rich in narrative, and visually stunning with its high-quality miniatures. I’ve built most of my collection through the Fantasy Flight Game Center here in Minnesota, which is a fantastic place to play, paint, and connect with other gamers. Their support for the Star Wars universe and the tabletop community is second to none. If you’re into tactical combat, immersive campaigns, or simply love Star Wars, this game will blow you away. Spectacularly designed game, lots of rules, lots of fun
Style: a) Star Wars Legion Core Set
As a long time fan of board and table-top games, I was excited to learn one of my favorite universes was doing a miniatures war game! In Star Wars Legion you take on the role of the Imperials or Rebels and "build" your army via a points system. Then your epic battle takes place on a 6ft by 3ft play area. This core set can be expanded with Snowspeeders and ATSTs and other troops, purchased separately. In this box you'll find Rebel Troopers, Stormtroopers, a few vehicles and of course Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker themselves. The models in the box are plastic and some simply assembly with glue. In my opinion, you should paint them because they just look so good painted. I can't tell you how many times I just have a "scene" set up with no intention of playing the game, and company stops by and amazes at the models and set-up. The game itself is rules heavy, and may not be for someone under the age of 12. Even as an adult fan, it takes a few games to really learn how to play. If you've got someone in your family who as an interest in gaming, Star Wars, and likes to build/paint/create stuff, this would be an excellent purchase.

Great Game, Questionable Gouging
Style: a) Star Wars Legion Core Set
I like painting minis, tabletop wargames, and Star Wars - thus, Star Wars Legion immediately caught my attention and I ordered this core set almost as soon as I had heard about it. I only recently started getting into various Fantasy Flight Games products and I enjoy their nice balance of depth and simplicity. Legion, as a game, is on par with this as it’s easy to get into and grasp the mechanics of quickly so you’re spending less time reading rules and scouring forums for answers and more time actually playing the game. The miniatures themselves are surprisingly well made and detailed and fun to paint up. The core box itself is also a great deal as the value of the included minis (if you were to buy the individual boxes) would cost you between $100 - $150. Plus it comes with two (Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader) that are entirely exclusive to this set. HOWEVER, there are two issues with this box and they’re both aimed at FFG getting more money out of you. First off, you’ll quickly discover that to easily play a full game you’ll need to purchase the additional dice set. While the box comes with the appropriate white, red, and black dice you need it doesn’t come with enough of them. This will leave you playing in a manner where you’ll have to re-roll already rolled dice for attacks and defends and having to make a mental note of what’s already been rolled. It’s not a game breaker but it’s, quite simply, annoying and clearly a tactic by FFG to gouge you - forcing you to spend more money on more dice. Secondly, the units in this box do not come with ALL of their upgrades or associated cards. To get those, you’ll need to buy the separate boxes. Another blatant move to get more money out of you. These two moves really make it feel like you’re not getting the FULL experience and FFG is just unapologetically trying to squeeze you for more money - questionable practice to say the least.

Fun so far.

I have only gotten as far as assembling, painting, and basing the stormtroopers (there is an extra unit in the pictures because I also got the extra set) and haven't yet played the game, I will say that if someone is looking to get in to the miniature hobby, these are a great way to start. With this set, you dont need nippers to cut anything off of sprues. These come already cut and ready to assemble. Some good super glue or plastic model glue, and you are ready to go.

Easy Start to Legion

It was very quick and easy set-up. Models were easy to put together, and the games was explained well and fun to learn. Keep in mind that you will need your own tools and paints to get the models to table top standard, but they do look nice put together. The game does feel like a miniature version of Star Wars. One of the better products that has come out since Disney took over!
