This is an excellent remake of the original. It looks amazing, plays well, and the music is incredible. The controls are tight and responsive and there is quite a bit of replayability built in due to the arcade-like nature of the gameplay. The multiplayer, while limited in scope, is well done and rather intense. The attention to detail is amazing, from small story references in the cut scenes to graphical nuances such as trees lighting on fire from your lasers. Many levels look completely different from the original due to the graphical improvements (e.g. Sector X). This is easily the best looking Switch 2 game at the moment, all while having a solid 60fps the whole way through. This is a great entry to the series if you're new to Star Fox and a good way to revisit the original if you've played Star Fox 64 before. ... show more

This is a remastering (again) of Starfox 64, however, it is very well done. This games makes great use of the performance and graphics capabilities of the switch 2, and the environment is absolutely gorgeous and makes the world come to life. The cutscenes are also done really well, and it does a nice job of making the Starfox 64 story feel fresh again. The game plays really well on a pro controller, and if you use the joycons it opens up the door for playing couch co-op where one person controls the maneuvering and the other person controls the attacking. Overall, it is another remastering of a previous game instead of a whole new experience, but it does feel fresh and it looks gorgeous. ... show more

Excellent remake of a classic with top-notch visuals. This one is definitely a can't-miss title for the Switch 2. It's Top Gun meets Star Wars, with a distinct and lovable cast of animal pilots. My husband is a big fan of the original game for Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 and he absolutely loves this remake. I never played much of the series myself, but I'm loving it too. The main campaign follows the same story as the original, complete with secrets to find and branching story options. In regard to the online battle mode, I could definitely see potential for a competitive scene/tournaments in the future, but it's also great to play casually with friends and it's super addictive! In terms of presentation, the graphical fidelity is outstanding—on par, if not exceeding the PS5's—and the soundtrack has been gorgeously arranged with a live orchestra, sounding like a score straight out of the cinema. We also bought a Nintendo 64-style controller as per my husband's request and he reports that it feels great to play with: same control scheme, but with even smoother handling. The only thing I don't really care for is the voice cast. It's just okay at best and somehow feels both overacted and stiff, reminiscent of a lot of English anime dubs.     • A faithful, action-packed remake recommended for both new and old fans of Star Fox

If you need a reason to buy a Switch 2, here's another one. As someone who played Star Fox 64 a number of times as a child, this title interested me despite it being a true 1:1 of the original with an entirely new aesthetic, modernized controls, expanded lore, and beautiful animations. You can expect an easy 20+ hours of gameplay if you complete all the challenges, routes, and modes (campaign- normal + expert, challenges, battle/multiplayer). Also, the music is stunning and quite nostalgic. The gameplay itself is as fun and captivating as ever before with the visual upgrade. I have found some of the normal difficulty to be too easy, but the challenges and medals add some challenge. I have yet to dig into the challenge mode or expert mode. I would recommend this title for both new and old fans as it offers them both a considerable amount of value and introduction to a franchise that Nintendo will most likely grow further with games that build upon this one. I can't say much about coop or the multiplayer since I only play single player but the SP alone is worth the price of admission. ... show more

    • Fantastic Remake; Support Star Fox, cynics!

I've played the original Star Fox 64 countless times over the past 29 years. Most recently I've revisited it using the fantastic PC recompilation on my Steam Deck (60+ fps, widescreen, visual mods, etc). Always loved the gameplay, the characters, the music, the scenarios. It's an evergreen game. This remake of it is fantastic. The same gameplay is there though feels slightly different. The visuals are amazing. The music is thrilling. The new cutscenes recontextualize events in the game and give a welcome explanation to why the characters choose to take one route or the other on their way to the end stage. I didn't expect this, it's not even necessary, but it works well and I enjoyed it through my several launch-day playthroughs. The only thing that sometimes falls flat is Falco's cynical commentary which sometimes doesn't seem to make sense, but overall the voice acting and team element is perfect. You may also miss the comical enemy voice acting which is now more subdued. You'll also notice slight variations in lines, new dialogue, scenarios playing out somewhat differently. I am of the mindset that remakes are best as reimaginings, so I loved all of the new surprises. I have not had a chance to try online gameplay - I'm not normally a competitive online gamer. But after trying out a bot match, I'm considering getting a Nintendo Online account to compete. I may even get the stupid camera and use the animated avatar. Because it's fun. If you love Star Fox and want to see it make a comeback, then there's no excuse not to buy this and enjoy it. If you're going to complain that it's "just another remake" and refuse to support it, that's fine, but you're not going to be a part of this franchise returning if they hopefully run with this into Star Fox 2 and beyond (if they don't, they're insane, because this sets up so much possibility for fun sequels, and they've reportedly gotten a lot of support for this relaunch). I understanding the cynicism. I am very cynical. I don't like most things. But I'm excited for what this relaunch does for this series and you've gotta support it or it's going to be the last time you see it. ... show more

    • Very Addicting Multiplayer!

Disclaimer: The 4 star rating is due to Amazon's delay in delivery. The game itself is a fantastic remake of the classic original hitting me hard with nostalgia. **Amazon** I preordered to take advantage of the $10 discount. When I didn't initially receive the game on day 1 as expected, there must've been a glitch in their tracking system to tell me to expect it an entire month later because of unexpected delays at the shipping facility. I was unsure of when it would actually arrive, but they only made me painfully wait for 5 days. **StarFox** Absolutely 5/5 stars. The multiplayer alone is addicting! I've been spending countless hours every day since arrival. It's limited to 3 maps, but they've each got their own mechanics and strategy for the main objective. I can see them extending it with updates in the future. GameShare is compatible with the original Switch, so those of you who owned one and still held on to it can bring in a Player 2. The single player is equally as great, and has been revamped to tell a more complete story with expository logs to fill in additional lore. The challenges and expert mode gives the player a series of trials to achieve greatness as an ace Arwing pilot. The Co-Piloting controls take awhile to get accustomed to. You could even master the controls by oneself, which in theory would greatly outclass other players online because you can fly and shoot in two separate directions with extended peripheral reticle distances. I really whished Nintendo would have released new Amiibo for Peppy and Slippy. ... show more

This is such a great remake. The visuals are stunning, the soundtrack is a masterpiece, the cutscenes are like watching a StarFox movie I'm sure all fans have been wishing for, and the game play is smooth and addicting. It really takes fans back to the N64 years, but it'll be a fun experience for anyone new to StarFox too. With the many different branching routes, hidden paths, challenges, and unlocking different cutscenes depending on which path you take, this game will provide many hours of fun. ... show more
