  • Quality Materials, but Should be Cheaper
Aesthetics: Simple, utilitarian, efficient. It looks like it belongs in a warehouse more than in an elegant office. Material: High-quality metal, with thick, high-quality wooden panels that are actually wood. Roller wheels are also very high-quality. Craftsmanship: Built well, no creaks and things feeling out of place when moving it around. Once you assemble everything together, it feels like a tank. Size/Weight: The description states the weight of the total components at 45 pounds, but with the quality rollers, moving it around once it is assembled is very easy. Functionality: As a standing desk, it functions perfectly. It is high-quality that will last you a long time. However, I must focus on the couple of negatives that will undoubtedly come up if this was used in a business office for multiple employees. For me, it is not an issue at a fixed height because only I use it, and it is at the perfect height for me. However, if you want to to adjust the height, then it would be a huge pain, as there is no crank mechanism, and to adjust the height you would have to remove the 4 screws which controls the height mechanism. That means you would have to remove everything on the desk first, which would be a pain if you have a monitor and heavy equipment on there. And finally, once assembled, it will not fit through standard-size bedroom doors. You will have to remove the lower wooden panel to reduce the width for it to fit though the door. Overall, I rated this 4 stars for me because it is optimal for the function I need it to be. For others who need to adjust the height on a regular basis, it would be 3 stars at best. I always rate the item with the price in mind, because nowadays that is a key factor in deciding what you buy and whether you buy that one, or something else. At $160 at which I bought it, I think it is at the higher end of what I would pay for it. I bought a beautiful high-quality L-shaped glass desk for $230, so $160 for a simple desk like this is a bit overpriced. I would give it 5 stars if it was around $125. So at its price, with its cons, I give this 4 stars and recommend it with caveats. ... show more

  • Combine Desk and Treadmill for Walking Desk!
My son-in-law gave me the book, Eat Move Sleep by Tom Rath a while back and I finally got around to reading it. Now I am a nutritional vegans so eat no meat, fish, dairy or eggs so that is in line with the book's recommendations. I try to walk daily with my wife Nancy, but we often are too busy so just don't do it as often as we should. While Nancy is up and about most of the time I tend to sit in front of my workstations writing, blogging and doing remote IT support work. After reading this book I got inspired and excited about acquiring a walking desk/workstation for my office. I have limited space so didn't want something huge. Checking around I found that the prices for these were out of sight, from $900 to over $2,000. Way too expensive. I started doing some research and found that several folks had built their own setups. Some were very elaborate and I like simple. I found that if I combined two different systems to make my own personalized Walking Workstation I could save a bundle. I ordered the Confidence Power Plus Motorized Electric Treadmill Black ($199) and a 40" Black Shelves Mobile Ergonomic Stand Up Desk Computer Workstation from the stand Up Desk Store ($239). I was taking a gamble on being able to merge these two into a workable solution but thought I'd give it a try. The Stand Up Desk was pretty easy to put together and very sturdy/solid in construction. It is height adjustable which is a requirement for this! The Treadmill was a bit of a bigger challenge. It comes with a (really nice) safety bar and decent control panel. The safety bar is connected with two large bolts that allow you to detach it easily (have to take it off to fit under the standing desk). The control panel and wire was a bit more complex. I checked several reviews and saw how some others had done it. Not bad. I took off the motor cover on the front of the treadmill (4 screws) and the motor and control circuit board are easily accessible. There is a small 3-pronged connector on the motherboard that you need to GENTLY pull off. A pair of needle nose pliers is helpful. The plug is a female over the three board mounted pins with a male insert connected to the cable. If you pull off the assembly, no worries, just be careful to gently replace the male-to-pin connector. The treadmill comes with a control panel mounted on top of the safety bar, just unscrew the four screws holding it on and it removes easily. Leave the wire attached and set the unit back on the bar or on your standing desk. Next carefully thread the control wire back through the metal bars up to the top and pull it out. It is easy to re-plug the control wife back onto the base motherboard and replace the cover. I screwed in the rounded piece that would normally go around the safety bar and it sits on my desk like it belongs there. Now you can remove the metal safety bar and stick it in the garage; hoping that you might have use of it for something! I just place the treadmill up to the desk and mount my computer gear on the desk and you are off and walking while you work! It DOES take some getting used to so make sure the desk is adjusted. I had to extend it to almost the full height adjustment but it is stable and solid (I'm 5' 10”) If your are much over 6 foot, this desk may not work for you. ... show more

  • Sturdy, good looking, mobile stand up desk, great value for price, exactly as pictured.
Size: 40 Inches Color: Black Frame/Teak Top
Arrived fast via UPS. Box was a little banged up and had one large hole, but there was no damage, one tool was missing (part H) but my son had a tool. One caster is a bit janky, and doesn't work perfect, but not stopping the rolling. Very sturdy and well made. I am pleased with quality and look. Teak top is very nice. I wanted a mobile self-contained work station that is stand up height. I didn't need to be able to auto raise and lower, so this was perfect for me. If you prefer to be able to push a button to raise and lower from stand to sit over your work day, this is not the desk for you. My son put it together in less than an hour with little help from me, I held a bar in place couple times. I am short (5'3") so it is set for standing at a slightly higher than counter. Then I have a a really comfy upholstered bar stool that I can sit down and work. I keep my power supply and on bottom shelf, so it's easy to move to another room on the casters with one plug. I have laptop and mouse with pad and dual charge station on the middle shelf and a large monitor (42" TV) on top shelf, as I am visually impaired this large monitor takes the whole top shelf. I only use my laptop monitor for word and email that I can quickly make size large. This set up works perfect for my work style and need. Fyi, the middle shelf is so spacious, I can easily add docking station and keyboard, still having plenty of room for my laptop and mouse. With space between the middle and top shelves, my laptop is open and my monitor on top shelf is fully viewable. VERY HAPPY! ... show more
