I dug out an ant mound that had built up behind a stump next to my fence with this (after I killed the ants). The tines cut through the hardened clay like a scythe through wheat. I have a different rake that has more blunt tines, and it frustrated me that I had to practically stand on the thing to get it to penetrate the earth. Not so with this beauty! You will need to use caution when swinging it around, as the sharp tines will penetrate humans just as easily as dirt. The handle is a nice solid rubbery grip with extra lines of flexible rubber to help make sure your hands don't slip. The metal feels like it's steel, instead of the cheaper molded aluminum that my previous rake was made of. That previous one snapped prying on a SMALL root. This one I used to pry apart chunks of the stump that the ant mound was behind (it had been attacked by termites) and it didn't even bend any of the tines a fraction. BEST RAKE EVER! I'll update if I have any issues. I will be using the heck out of this during this spring... so it won't be long for any flaws to make themselves obvious. I don't mistreat my tools, (although I do put them to "unconventional" uses...) so I don't anticipate anything if this rake is built as well as I feel it is from the initial test. ... show more
