I searched forever for a large capacity cup and saucer like this. This one was exactly what I’d hope for. It’s like drinking a bowl of coffee in the morning, only I get a handle too. It’s sturdy and well made. I use it every day. There is ONE thing… I won’t take a star off for it, but I will say I was a little taken aback when I saw it. I’ve put a photo with this review. What is happening in the artwork on the saucer? This wasn’t featured in any of the listing pics. It looks like this man is about to either kick this lady into the river or spear her and then kick her into the river. And does he have horns? On the cup, it looks more like she’s leaning over the river helping him spear fishing. But I don’t really see the cup while I’m using it. I do see the image on the saucer every time I set the cup down. It makes me giggle now, but it’s still weird. Other than that, this is my most favorite and most used cup and saucer set.

For the last 15 years + I have used Spode Jumbo cups daily, but these older ones are of much larger capacity than the newer Spode Jumbo cup reviewed here. Here are my comments on this model in no particular order: PROs: - Great ergonomics. If like me, you have experience with the older Spode jumbo cups you will love the ergonomics of this one. The smaller size translates into much better handling: * Rounded, perfectly shaped handle - this cup is a joy to hold. The handle provides a perfect thumb rest and one never feels compelled to support the cup at the bottom for fear of the handle breaking. As a matter of fact, I have had several Spode Blue Room Jumbo Cups develop handle problems in the past - I suspect that the handles could not support the heavy, filled cups very well and the material cracked after a while. No fear of this happening here! * Love the saucer that comes up quite high and cradles the cup securely. No great fear of accidental spills here, also not when transporting the cup from A to B. - Very nice Spode quality. High quality decor and materials, no unevenness or other problems. In all my years of using those cups I have never had one break or crack on me (with the exception of the handle on the older, larger cups - see above). CONs: - Only one, and the reason for the one star deduction: The inside bottom is slightly convex which makes it difficult to stir as the spoon tends to slide off the raised center toward the somewhat ridged edge of the cup. I am not a fan. Overall a great large cup that I will use for many years to come. One last note: The 20 oz.capacity is theory only and would require to fill it to the rim. The actual capacity is at least one oz less, depending on the fill level.

This big, beautiful, Spode cup and saucer set is made in China not England. The sturdy saucer has a rim that curves up and is the size of a salad plate. The graceful cup holds 20 oz. I like it VERY MUCH but AM somewhat disappointed that it’s not made in England. For the price point I thought it should have been (Thirty USD), like from the original factory.

Gorgeous! But comes from Europe so the saucer was broken upon delivery. I tried to return but shipping was astronomical. 3x the cost of the product. I ordered a second one instead of returning. It was a gift. This time nothing was broken.

I love this pattern and the size of the cup. Unfortunately, the packing was not sufficient to cushion the saucer. The cup arrived in one piece, but the saucer was shattered. The cost of returning a broken piece of pottery for a refund is prohibitive. The seller needs to take more care before mailing.
