I bought this game because I have a child with PDA and playing competitive games are still difficult for him to handle losing. Since this game is cooperative, we talk out strategies and turn it into a real adventure. Activating the Dangers is a great interactive feature. And the ability to reset lives, earn extra lives, etc really helps my child's sense of fairness and helps him manage anxiety about not being successful. This is a game that is one more step in helping him process his emotions before hitting a "fight or flight" trigger that removes him from his thinking brain. The quality of the game is over all good, especially the characters, danger pieces, cards, and dice. The board itself is two light weight plastic pieces that interlock and then four cardboard puzzle pieces that connect around the plastic pieces to make the island. There are some small pieces, but overall the game is fun for any age. I would even play with just other adults, especially for a Jumanji themed evening. As long as you use some care with the plastic and cardboard pieces, I think it will be able to played for many years to come. And would even buy again if it does eventually break. ... show more

Jumanji Stampede Rating: 5/5 Stars Review: “As a fan of both the original Robin Williams movie, and the newer movies, I had to try out Jumanji Stampede to see what it was like. I will be honest, I found out about this game completely by accident, but when I did, I could not stop thinking about it. Upon opening the box, I found that it had a lot of bells and whistles. I played this game for the first time with both my parents, and we had a blast. The gameplay was a lot of fun as we moved our ‘player movers’ across the board to find the five crystals. The action cards were often unpredictable as none of us knew what we were going to expect, but it added an extra layer of suspense. I also liked the power-ups we received from returning the crystal horn to Rhino Mountain. Part of me wished that there were other power-ups that came with returning the other four crystals, but I understand that the crystal horn was intended to be the literal crowning jewel of the game. I also liked the look of the ‘movers’ and their corresponding player boards. The designs of each character mimics what I would expect to see from the new Jumanji movies. It was also fun controlling the villain, Draven, as he tried to get to the top of rhino mountain. It gave us, the players, a sense of urgency as we tried to find all five crystals. Although the characters were fun to control, all three of them felt the same UNTIL we got those power-ups from returning the crystal horn. Although the characters were modeled after Dr. ‘Smolder’ Bravestone, Franklin ‘Mouse’ Finbar, Professor Sheldon ‘Shelley’ Oberon, and Ruby Roundhouse, none of the characters had their own strengths and weaknesses like they did in the movies. The inclusion of these strengths and weaknesses could have added more possibilities to turn the tide of the game. The characters also felt a little overpowered as we could easily win against Draven because we were all playing with the same characters. Since the game is geared towards players who are eight years old or older, I understand why this is the case, but it also made this game feel too easy to win. I also would have liked to have seen ‘player movers’ and ‘player boards’ for Jefferson ‘Seaplane’ McDonough and Ming Fleet-foot, but I understand that including them would have made the game more complicated than it needed to be. The best part of the game was the six animal dangers. Triggering each one felt so satisfying as we got the enjoyment of knocking things over. Imagine Mousetrap, but with six smaller traps to put together instead of one big one, a lot more stable, and a lot more chaotic. The traps are not without their flaws (e.g. the baboon often fell out of its tree by accident and would soar over ‘movers’ when launched, the snake tree often sent ‘movers’ flying off the board like shrapnel, and the rhino ball sometimes went down the track the elephant ball was supposed to go down if pushed too hard), but watching the domino effects of each trap as they are triggered added an extra layer of fun to an already involved game. These flaws also gave the traps an element of unpredictability. Even though a trap was activated, you could not be completely sure that you were safe just because a trap other than the one you were in front of was triggered. Although there were some things that could be refined, I loved Jumanji Stampede. The memorable and involved experience made me want to play it again. With such a beautiful looking board coupled with a fantastic blend of strategic gameplay and hilariously chaotic mechanics, this board game can add some adventure to your game-night. I recommend this game for its fun mechanics, and all the bells and whistles that come with its strategic gameplay.” ... show more

    • If you liked Fireball Island, then you'll like this!

Jumanji: Stampede like the original Jumanji, and that's a GOOD thing! This game is completely different from the original Jumanji game, and in the best way. The original game has you simply rolling dice and moving toward the center, while drawing cards that give you small scenarios to roll your way out of. Not really much to it. THIS game, however, completely makes Jumanji into a game where players are traversing an entire island, while racing a villain to recover a lost jewel. In addition, players are rolling rocks, flicking boulders, and launching tigers through the air at other players to try and sabotage their movement. The whole idea is very similar a very popular old game from the late 80's called Fireball Island, where players are trying to take a legendary jewel from an active volcano on an abandoned island. The idea was fun then, and it's definitely fun here too! Fireball Island got reprinted a few years ago, but it's a more different kind of game than the original, and Jumanji Stampede seems to be pretty close to the original Fireball Island in terms of depth and mechanics. The game has a molded plastic board which gives extreme depth and variety to the environment. Also comes with trees that can be manipulated to stop a rolling boulder or divert its trajectory. They also made the box big enough to accomodate all of these components back inside easily when putting it up, which was a concern of mine once I got it all unpacked and set up for the first time. Jumanji Stampede is definitely worth a try, especially at this price, and ESPECIALLY when compared to how much the original Fireball Island costs these days! Kids and adults alike will enjoy it, for sure. Definitely recommended for kids aged around 8 and up. Fun for everyone! ... show more

Out family absolutely loves this game. The kids (3 aged 5-11) are all able to understand the game and really enjoy the interactive nature of the "events". Its easy to understand once you start and still interesting and fun enough for an adult to join in too. I was worried it was going to be too touchy (like Mouse Trap, where the slightest bump sets things off), but that's not at all the case. Everything fits back into the box and storage was not an issue for us. The board and all components are quite durable and seem well made. My kids jumped on this as soon as it arrived. They like all the various mechanical dangers. As an owner of both the original and new Fireball Island games, it's difficult to ignore the obviously stolen elements. It's a creative twist on the idea, but it's lifted from other games. There will be fewer heartbreaks since the players are working together instead of against each other. That's a plus with younger players.
