  • Knowledge is power!
As an audio enthusiast and focused on speakers, I realized that I didn’t really know that much about them. This book, even if I never build one, is an excellent source of the technical aspects of speakers. It is written for a layman, but gives the technical aspects info for a finished product.

  • Good info, but poor prints, no color, and small text.
Great info in this book. I have not read it binder to binder yet, but my impression so far... Goes into the cross-over in great detail without over doing it. Too bad the print quality is so low. There are no colors and all the graphs have lines for various plots and how do we know which line is for what when they are all the same color? The text in the side bars is so small I have to wear a magnifying headset (those for watch makers). Too bad, I'd happily pay 50% more if the print quality was top notch. I actually bought this as a gift for my son who happens to want to build audio gear like me, and was hoping it would make a nicer looking gift than it does. But as a reference text for speaker building it is very good, so absolutely worth having. A little note to beginners... This book shows how difficult and complex a speaker really is. Some understanding of the required math, ohms law, reactive components, acoustics, etc is needed to fully appreciate this book. ... show more

  • Great Guide for Beginners and Pro's
This book covers from all the different box desgins that have been made and how you can create any type of box for you're home. Having it sound as good or better than a speaker box you would buy at an Audiophile store for $2,000 to $6,000 for a fraction of the price. It also gives you multiple web pages to explore about crossover calculators, box calculators and just other websites of other peoples creations and they show you how they built what they did. Partsexpress is one of the websites I did a lot of my purchasing through, they are fast and have a great selection of speaker's and components. They also have a do it yourself page with multiple projects from various people that have submitted their ideas and box designs. All of which you can create the exact same box as they did do to the fact that they give you all the blue prints, crossover design's and other good information. This book will help you understand so many speaker building techniques and the way's it all comes together in the end. I reccomend this book to all that have a desire in building their own home theater system and reccomend you read many more books on the subject. The more you know the better you will be and the better it will all sound. ... show more

  • Essential but.....
Regardless of avavailable software, this book provides intuition programs can't replace. Unfortunately not the quality of the original as others have said. The original projects were more imaginative. Too bad.

  • good book, bad printing.
Great book. but poor print quality. This is my second copy of the book and it looks like it was reprinted using a scanner or just a poor printer. Still a good book but the poor reproduction makes it more difficult to read. Straightforward explanations of concepts as well as well-written plans make it possible for a novice to assemble a nice sounding speaker or to design a fantastic one-of-a-kind build. The author even goes into detail on how to enter more complicated strings of numbers into a calculator. It helps to have a basic high-school level understanding of algebra to complete these projects. Basic woodworking skills are probably a more important consideration for anybody who wants to build a speaker cabinet using guidelines here. ... show more

  • It's Deep!
It will take awhile to get through it, because there's a lot of technical information in it.

  • Audio dynamics.
You dig the physics and math of wave propagation? This book is for you. It is, however, a good source material for suppliers if/when you want to build your own. But I bought parts from a company that “matched things up” and just wanted to build the boxes. On page 137 I found the only drawing I need so if you want my copy, let me know. ... show more
