  • Good quality!
Loved the quality. Nice tool & works well.

  • Easy to use
Perfect for planting and moving my perennials. It gets down deep under roots in one easy step. It came in a ridiculously large Amazon box but arrived intact.

  • Every tool has a purpose
Every tool has a purpose, and I really like this shovel. It's unique shape makes it really effective if you have a very root-y yard like mine. I used it to dig a trench to divert water that's been flooding some of our land. It's easier than using a full size shovel in areas where the ground isn't just dirt. It's just easier to maneuver around the roots and dig a narrow trench ad then widen it. As for the shovel itself, it's not going to last forever, but in todays world, it's well made. Inevitably I will, as I always do, snap it, but I haven't yet. ... show more

  • Feels pretty durable
About what I would expect from this type of shovel. Feels fairly durable, not flimsy.

  • Great spade, especially for difficult soil
Not all digging tools are created alike. This spade is not ideal for scooping, digging shallow or wide holes, or transferring loads of soil or rocks to a wheelbarrow. The sharp shooter spade has a long, narrow profile for digging post holes or removing old posts, trenching or making channels to lay down irrigation installations or drainage, digging a perimeter around bushes to remove them or transplant, or even weeding. The WIKER sharp shooter spade is a fine example of this type of tool. The blade is long for getting down deep and breaking through compact soil. Our soil is thick black clay gumbo that is very compact and hard to work with. When wet, the soil is sticky and in drought can become hard like rock. This spade's blade is meant for slicing through this type of soil. This spade has a short length with a D-grip that's great for working in tight areas with better control. The fiberglas handle is strong, lightweight, and less prone breakage than wood which needs more care from sun and moisture to prevent rotting and splintering. ... show more

  • Seems very well-made
What I like: - Product came fully-assembled, with the blade being attached to the shaft with a metal rivet. This was a nice surprise--I figured I'd have to screw the blade to the handle, resulting in a wobbly connection when under stress. The handle is also attached with a metal rivet. - The handle is comfortable to hold. It's also light in weigh, so most of the shovel's weight is in the blade, where it should be. What I don't like/Am on the fence about: - The handle is made of three pieces of plastic: the round grip, and two sides. All three parts are also hollow. I'm worried about its durability. It feels like this is where this tool will fail when it does (as all tools do). I would like to have seen a solid, one-piece handle, or even a two-piece handle with the two sides forming a single piece. Overall, this is a very nice, well-made narrow shovel. The blade is metal and the shaft is fiberglass, which is great. But that hollow, multi-part handle is what keeps this from being a truly great tool. But at less than $30, this is still a worthwhile pickup. RECOMMENDED. ... show more

  • Easy holes made for gopher traps
WIKER Spade Shovel,Sharp Shooter Shovel,Shovels for Digging,Planting,Trenching,Gardening,Drain Spade with Fiberglass Handle Heavy Duty,Blue,45 inchesWIKER Spade Shovel,Sharp Shooter Shovel,Shovels for Digging,Planting,Trenching,Gardening,Drain Spade with Fiberglass Handle Heavy Duty,Blue,45 inches The shovel is the perfect size for situations that don’t require a large digging surface and it’s perfect for trenching. The handle/grip has a comfortable fit and feel. The fiberglass part seems secure with rivets running through the bottom of the handle and where the fiberglass meets the top portion of the blade. The shovel is light weight and easy to use. It penetrates the grass surface nicely. I have used it to dig small holes around gopher openings to set gopher traps. Prior to this I was using a small handheld pot planting shovel. This product has proven to be a good work horse in the yard, deserving of 5 stars. ... show more
