Was easy to assemble although the components are not marked so take your time at start and ID which pieces. Actual assembly was easy. quality of the wood pieces were better than expected for the price adding extra value. the short coming of the design is the same as all DYI systems in this cost point and that is the backing, cardboard and seamed (taped). Although standard for this type of construction it takes a nice looking product and make it look cheaper due to how the back fits and looks. this is the same in this type of DYI case. The overall bookcase gets a 5 star and is solid when assembled. Looks really well with the home office while looking like a professional piece of furniture. I was surprised there were negative reviews on this after it came in because the instructions were easy to follow and this was easy to build for 2 people. The back is thin, but that’s how most bookshelves come and overall the shelf is nice. Just what we needed for our office.

Perfect for my use, a simple bookshelf for a spare bedroom, used mainly for the storage of books, rather than in say a children's room where they are taking books and toys on and off the shelves. The backboard was less substantial than I had hoped, being etched, very light weight fiberboard, rather than real plywood, but it serves the purpose, keeps the price very reasonable, and once filled with books, it is not noticeable. Parts of the product came damaged, overall the book shelf seems sturdy if it’s hookednto the wall. The colour on it scratches easily/ rips easily. It looks great but the quality is average.

I really love this bookshelf. I have bought it twice on two separate occasions. The first time, there was just a smaller nick in the top corner of the bookshelf. Definitely noticeable but I just figured it got damaged in transit. Bought a second bookshelf and this one came in even worse condition. Whole piece torn off at the top of the bookshelf. Looks awful and definitely noticeable. There are other damaged spots but this one is the worst. Other than that the bookshelf is very sturdy and relatively easy to put together. ... show more

    • Terrible, Terrible, product. Do not buy!
Packaging was terrible. Bookshelves were significantly damaged with scratches, dents, scrapes, and cracks. I will never buy from southshore again. I would return them, but it's too much of a pain after putting them together. Terrible shipping and an overall poor quality product. These shelves are basically crappy versions of what one can get from Ikea....but they cost more. The photo is so deceiving! It looks nice, but it's just particle board with some particle board trimming that shows up dented and scratched. The funny thing is that the manufacturer knows it. The first thing you see when you open the box is a hotline to get replacement parts for what's damaged in shipping. What a pain!!! Why not ship it right in the first place...oh wait I know why, because the materials are so flimsy they can't handle more than a trip around the block. Don't buy this crap! ... show more

This is a great bookcase at a reasonable price. However, you really need some prior experience assembling furniture in order to put it together properly. If you are pretty handy with self-assembly, you will not be disappointed. Once you get it all together, the case is extremely stable and solid. Looks great and somehow turns out larger than you'd think by the dimensions. We're thinking about ordering another one. ... show more

    • Sturdy, good looking piece
It took my husband and me about an hour to put together, I don't think I could have done it alone, pieces are heavy and you do need to turn over to put the back on. Certainly easier to make sure it's square before nailing the backing with two as well. But it went together fairly easy and looks great. Very sturdy shelves can hold a good amount of weight, not like the flimsy one I had that the shelves bowed on. Nice clean look, just enough trim to make it look more expensive than it is. One corner of the top trim pieces didn't butt together 100% but for the price .... I'll live with it! Overall very good buy for the money. ... show more
