    • Insightful and balanced, original and traditional, it delivers the goods
As a pastor over two decades I read many devotional works in search of sermon ideas and material. This volume would serve a preacher very well for that purpose, though I no longer am working at the craft. The author's reputation was made in public endeavors other than Bible teaching so it was sort of a find to discover so many original insights and sound observations on scripture. Other writers doing this for their living are less accomplished. I positively recommend this Baptist Sunday School teacher's lessons as helpful supplements for a pilgrim with an education at Princeton Theological Seminary and years of Bible study in the Presbyterian Church (USA). ... show more

A wonderful read for anyone interested in faith and politics. President Carter offers a plethora of lessons based upon the many he has taught over his many years as a Sunday School teacher. He re-enforces these devotionals with his own life experiences. His lessons center upon the Bible and offer a clear cut argument in terms of faith. As someone disenchanted with the fumblings of the Religious Right and others who have distorted the Bible, I found this work to be a refreshing work to study in a time when politics and religion seem to merge together. Although not a five star I enjoyed the passages of scripture chosen and President Carter's reflections. I think that it tells a lot about him as a man and former president. He has led his life in an authentic way,and his Christianity has shaped him to be who he has become. I was not a fan of his presidency nor am I of the same ideological persuasion but I admire how he has approached his post presidency. ... show more

    • Helps Understand The Bible.
I'm not what all would call a follower. But this book, like President Carter's Sunday School lessons, makes it easy to understand the Bible in modern times. Also gives me pause to wonder why so many Christians don't follow the Bible closer?
