I recently saw a video from Samantha Brown (host of several travel shows) and she suggested getting a pair of waterproof Chelsea boots with good tread for travel, and I mean, Sam knows her stuff. The kind she recommended aren't available anymore, so I began my search to find something similar. The goal is to have one pair of boots you can wear with casual outfits, yet dress them up a bit in the evening if necessary. Less to pack. Waterproof ensures your feet will stay dry if it's raining or snowing. Good tread will eliminate slips, as well as help you to walk on uneven surfaces, if necessary (think cobblestone streets in Europe). I found these Sorel Chelsea boots just in time before vacation and I'm so glad I did! They are so comfortable! No break in time needed. They have nice arch support, which I need, and great tread. Typically I am a 7.5M in all my shoes, but I sized up half a size based on reviews. If I was going to wear very thin socks, I could have stayed with my ususal 7.5. However, I'm glad I went up half a size because I can wear a thicker sock and they fit just as they should. The toe box has plenty of room, which is important to me for comfort. I find them easy to put on and pull off with no issue (there is no zipper). I've only worn them with jeans and pants so far, but they'd be so cute with a dress as well. Just got home from a week in England. My feet were dry and warm even after all-day exposure to the rain. Comfortable from the first time I put them on. Thought I’d have to break them in; nope! Didn’t slip once on the sidewalks of rainy London. Absolutely perfect boots.

    • Top of boot irritates my ankles

These boots are cute and relatively comfortable with one exception. I was considering taking them on a trip with lots of walking but that won’t be happening. The top of the boot rubs my ankle, even with a longer sock pulled above my ankles. I’ve worn them to work multiple times, which is minimal walking for me. At the end of the day, the tops of my ankles are irritated and uncomfortable. It’s manageable for a day of work but I will not wear these for walking any distances. ... show more

They were easy to put on and takeoff and comfortable even though they hit a bit above my ankles. Didn’t need a break-in period and they are pretty stiff, I have very difficult feet to fit so I am thrilled! Now they’re really good part. I just received these Emelie Chelsea boots and love the fit right out of the box. I wore them around running errands today to "break them in," but they felt like perfect-fitting shoes from the moment I put them on. They are incredibly comfortable.
