  • Works great in my Mac Pro 5,1
If patched with a known patch on Macrumors by Syncretic, you can use this in your Mac Pro 5,1, You must have a Windows tower to put the card in to run the patch tool. It takes less than a minute to do, you of coarse also have to have Opencore 0.8.0 and Monterey 12.3.1 or later installed and you have to do the Pixlas mod to give the card more power, but once it's patched it works great. • A surprising find, and a welcome one
When I first saw this deal I was skeptical since I'd never heard of Sonnet before (my only Apple product was an Ipod 4 Touch) but when I heard from others of the good reputation of the company, and that the GPU itself was produced by Powercolor (the PCB has identical I/O to their reference model, as well as the Red Devil card) I decided to give it a shot. The GPU arrived in a plain black cardboard box sealed with a sticker, but it is packaged new. The cooler on the GPU itself seems solid, and the 0 RPM mode is a nice touch. The cooler and shroud are just above being a true two-slot card, but I absolutely wouldn't classify it as a 2.5 slot card. So long as your case has a few extra millimeters of breathing room between your case wall and your GPU slot, this will fit in any 2 slot GPU system, at least depth wise. My case is a Silverstone RVZ02B, which is stylish looking, but very tight to work in and has no built in fans. The heat I expected the card to generate had me concerned before purchase, but I was pleasantly surprised. I did a quick stress test on Unigine Superposition (1080p Extreme) to see if I could crash my system with overdrawing on power (I'm using a 600W Corsair SFX PSU; officially it's underspec, but it also ran a R7 5800X/Vega 56 without issue); the test passed without a hitch. I also ran the in-game benchmark for Shadow of the Tomb Raider (1080p Highest settings, uncapped framerate) and played about 15 minutes on the UAC Atlantica level on Doom Eternal's DLC. In all cases, despite the cramped, low ventilated environment of my case, the GPU never went above 68C. Final thoughts: I'm honestly amazed at how efficient the Navi2 architecture and the cooling solution is despite my RVZ02B. This GPU has doubled my FPS from my old Vega 56, and I think I'll be set for at least five years before I upgrade again. I hope to stretch it to ten if I can. My final purchase will be looking into getting a 1440p ultrawide monitor to truly put my system to the test. If you have the funds on hand and the card is in stock, get it. This card is effectively a Powercolor Red Devil with a slimmer cooler and no dual BIOS, or a Powercolor reference with a thicker, more open cooler. ... show more

  • Awesome Card for the money
The media could not be loaded. I have to say that so far I'm very pleased. I know Sonnet is well known for Apple products so I gave them a shot. Super happy with my build. Aiming for an Aorus build but prices are still too high on Aorus GPU's and takes 3 pci slots. The main reason I bought this card was bc of the profile of 2 slot so that I know I wouldn't struggle with mostly other manufacturer brands making this card 2.5-3 pci slot space. So it's perfect for the Hyte Y60 case because there's plenty of room to breathe. Specs 10 Aorus 120mm RGB fans on negative pressure. 4 on push/pull as intake for the Aorus 240mm AIO and the rest exhaust. Hyte Y60. AMD R9 5900x @4.7 Ghz. Sonnet Radeon RX 6800 XT +SAM (so far stock) G.skill Trident Z Neo 32gb - 3600mhz. Aorus X570s Aorus Master. Aorus Waterforce 240 AIO. OCZ AMD R7 Radeon 250gb SSD for Win 11. (Old but still solid. won't switch till it dies. You can see it at the bottom in front of AIO Samsung 980 Pro 2Tb SSD PCIe NVMe (for gaming) Seagate 1Tb HHD for file storage. Western Digital 1TB HHD as windows backup. CORSAIR Enthusiast Series CMPSU-850TX 850W (a ten year old PSU still delivering solid power) I hope that this video card can last me for several years until I need an upgrade not a replacement. Good job Sonnet! I'll update if any negative changes. ... show more

  • Reference PCB, custom cooling!
Since I'm only the second reviewer, I tried to take the other (3 star) review with a grain of salt. As confirmed by the seller answering my posted question, the card is reference, which means STOCK clocks. And that's fine for what it is. The packaging is a plain black box, w/o any branded outer-box sleeve, or support material, stickers, etc. ("looks like refurbished"). Nothing appeared out-of-sort to imply mine was rebuilt; no signs of previous installation/wear, dust, cosmetic damage, etc. Cooler is a multi-heat pipe design vice the flat vapor chamber/fin stack I've seen from breakdown videos of complete reference cards, which should lead to better thermal performance, but I'm waiting on a waterblock to arrive before I really play around with it, so I can't speak to any stability if attempting to manually OC. That said, I play at 1440p so even at stock the performance is well satisfactory to me. Under minimal load (watching twitch, several chrome tabs open to youtube, etc.) the fans are 0rpm, which is nice. They've ramped up once on me now and it was notable. "Value for money" is a nit pick since GPUs are still overpriced, but falling. Overall I'd say it's worth it, as long as you're not expecting custom card numbers. tl;dr- no "factory" OC, no dual-BIOS, no RGB. And that's fine for what it is. ... show more
