They definitely do help the appearance, but they’re a little thin. The only trick is getting the cover color to match your couch or chair. Several months ago I purchased dark gray colored arm covers for the sofa in our TV room. They are very soft and stretchy, and once on they stay in place. I ordered these as backups in case those became stained, got holes, etc. I am extremely disappointed in these. These couch arm covers are thin and stretchy and can be easily thrown in the washer/dryer. I bought these because my cat likes to sit on the arms of the couch and my dogs like to lean on them. I wanted something to get the arms from getting dirty. My couch has rolled arms and these fit great. They do stretch over the arms and that helps to keep them in place.
