Description

Smittybilt 614850 M1 Rear Trunk Bumper for Toyota FJ Cruiser have helped to set the standard for all truck bumpers to follow. Each M1 bumper is manufactured out of 3/16 inch cold rolled steel with 1/4 inch mounting plates. It is powder coated in Smittybilt 's signature series two-stage matte black finish. Each M1 bumper comes standard with 7/8 inch solid D ring mounts, ultra bright driving and fog lights. It also has a winch mounting system that can hold up to a 16,500 pound winch.

    • So-So Fitment, Missing Parts, Terrible Instructions
Does not match the picture. First, anyone who owns an FJ knows that the picture is just some generic bumper. But the one shown attached to the FJ does not match what was received either. The sexy little round light have been replaced with butt ugly rectangular lights that do NOT fit into the holes cut into the bumper. The lights are good quality, but be prepared to make some modifications or purchase different lights. The fitment is so-so. The bumper is supposed to attach at each end and in 2 places in the middle. The middle brackets do not line up, at all, and even if they did there would be no way to get tools into the area to tighten the bolts. So it can only be attached at the ends. Which kind of worked out because they shorted me some nuts, bolts and washers. I used the ones for the middle bracket instead of running to the store for more. The instructions are basically none existent, especially when it comes to the parts of the original plastic bumper that must cut away and reused. I did get it to work with the after market hitch, which was unexpected. Its a solid piece of hardware, weld qualities are very good and looks good now that I've gotten installed. I bought a front bumper from a company in Australia (They love FJs in Australia) its fantastic in every respect. So, unless you just want the look of the SmittyBilt bumper (like I did), I suggest going with something else. But if you want this look, which compliments the lines of the FJ very well, and you're prepared to do some extra work and say a few curse words along the way, its a solid piece of kit. ... show more

    • Wiring harness was too short for pod lights
Was easy to install. The only hard part was trimming the oe bumper. Will need 2 people to help lift on to the car. The directions were good but were in black and white and weren't the best quality but overall you could tell they really tried to give you the best directions and help possible. The welds also inside the bumper looked a little weird but overall its worth the money and it looks damn good when you get it on. Oh yea and the wiring harness for the lights was way to short to go from the back of the car to the front battery so i just split the reverse Lights and did it that way. ... show more

    • FJ Cruiser Rear Bumper
This bumper worked out great for me. It was easy to install. All the hardware was there. The (4) 1.25" side mounting bolts that bolt the bumper to their side brackets were too short to include their lock washers. Everything else mounted up perfectly. I felt the bumper could have been closer to the truck. There's about a .5" gap between the bumper and end of truck. I'll probably fill that in with a piece of sheetmetal or cutout from the original plastic FJ bumper. Nice solid bumper though. ... show more

Great fit, very well designed and built. Great instruction but downloaded them from their web site since it will be easier to see the details in the pictures than the one sent with the bumper.

    • Looks good, but there's that gap
Looks good overall, but there is that extra half-inch of space between the bumper and the truck on one of the sides that has been alluded to previously. Should be better a little better designed for something that is supposed to be bespoke, but then again it was under $700.

    • Lights impossible to mount.
Light mount is the worst design EVER. Cut/trim then throw away the lights, turns $1000 bumper into a $400 looking bumper. How this design was ever approved is beyond me. Ordered bezel mounts and will install those. Cut directions are minimal at best.

    • Well built but a pain to put on yourself
I had trouble with rusted hardware that I forgot to spray penetrating oil into and busted a couple welded factory nuts, I can’t express this enough you need two people because it is so heavy and awkward but I was a little upset with the fit of it on the corners and the instructions was a joke, it was hard to follow and wow the pictures was useless as can be because they were in black and white and so grainy resolution and faded.Also if you have remote reservoir shocks you will have to either relocate them or get different shocks and also it’s a pain to put on if you have straight out the back single or dual exhaust. ... show more
