I am a six foot, six inch guy who goes on lots of back country adventures. I purchased these to explore moving from synthetic clothing to natural fibers. After a summer backpacking trip in the Colorado wilderness and a rafting trip down the Grand Canyon, I am very impressed with these boxers. Smartwool definitely lived up to their sterling reputation with these boxers. Washing them in rivers and lakes got them clean, though the washing was out of habit. They were odor free and didn't cause any chaffing or crotch-rot. After a few months of wear and washing, they are showing minor wear faster than cotton or synthetic underwear. The wear does not affect comfort or performance. I dry them on a hanging rack overnight and they are dry by that time. I will continue to buy these boxers as they are an excellent solution to my high adventure underwear needs. ... show more

    • Cool and comfortable but didn't keep me in place.

I've tried lots of different types of boxer briefs. The Winners and Losers are (in order): Winners: SAXX Undercover, SAXX Vibe, Izod Lacoste Cotton. I wear these regularly. Honorable Mention: Tommy John Cotton, Izod Lacoste Cotton Modal, Ex Officio Give-N-Go Sport Mesh, Izod Lacoste Motion Micro Mesh. I wear these also, but not quite as often. Losers: SAXX Platinum, Smartwool Merino 150, Mack Weldon, SAXX Kinetic, SAXX Shadow Boxer, SAXX Ultra, Hanes Ultimate. I no longer wear these. My criteria are simple. (1) They must keep me in place. The Winners, Honorable Mentions, and all of the SAXX brand do that. The others do not. (2) They must be comfortable. The winners are all comfortable. The Tommy John Cotton and Izod Lacoste Cotton Modal (honorable mention) are also very comfortable. The rest of the honorable mentions are comfortable but less so. From the loser group, the Smartwool was very comfortable as was the Mack Weldon. They just didn't keep me in place. (3) They must keep me cool. The winners all do that though the heavier Izod Lacoste Cotton can get a bit warm in the summer. The honorable mentions also do that except for the Izod Lacoste Motion Micro Mesh, which were a bit warm, but fine in the winter. The Smartwool and Mack Weldon also were cool, they just didn't keep me in place. The rest were not comfortable. Either they didn't feel right next to my skin or they were just too hot. (4) They must keep their shape and wear well over time. The winners all do that. The honorable mentions all do that except for the Tommy John Cotton and Izod Lacoste Cotton Modal which tended to wear quickly. This is the only thing that kept them from the winners group. Those in the loser group all wore well and keep their shape. The lost out either for not keeping me in place or comfort (too hot or didn't feel good next to my skin). ... show more

    • The most comfortable underwear ever
I had no idea that underwear could be this comfortable. The old version of boxers from back in the day were very unsatisfactory, so I have been a" briefs guy" for all of my adult life......and I am 72! But I have never found a brand that was completely right. So, because of my satisfaction with Smartwool socks, when I learned that Smartwool made underwear, I gave these a try. I have been converted. Husband likes how they feel, comfortable and they wick well. However, nine months in (gentle wash, hang dry) and of the five pairs I bought: two have massive holes in the inner thighs, and the other three aren't far behind. I expect significantly longer life from something with this pricetag.
