This is one of those items that I hope you won't need for its intended purpose for a very, very long time. I hope that you're getting it to store something else entirely and you're getting this purely because it's pretty. But if you do need it to contain a loved one, as I did, then rest easy. This is a good item. This is a smaller unit and is generally pretty light. I would say that it's somewhat palm sized as you can hold it easily in one hand. I think that it could comfortably hold about a quarter of an average sandwich sized bag of ashes, give or take. My father's remains are in a small bag that are a bit at or below a quarter. It takes up most of the container, but does leave some space for other items if desired. I have a lock of his hair that I'm thinking of placing in a small bag and putting in the container with the ashes. As far as looks go, this is nice. It's a simple, pretty urn. It's not overly obvious that it's an urn, if you want to be a bit discrete but it's also kind of obvious what it is once you know. The unit's seal is pretty snug. It took a slight amount of effort to pull out, so it's going to keep a seal decently enough. I personally recommend that you store your ashes in a plastic bag inside the container, as that will help keep everything in order and ensure that if this does drop and pop open, that everything stays together. If you do want to take them out then that's fine as well. The seal is tight enough that the ashes won't leak out. My concern would be if the worst case scenario happens and this falls. The seal is good and the urn is pretty sturdy, but I don't know that it would hold up to a drop. There's only so much this can do. My only caution is that this is clearly meant to contain only parts of your loved one's ashes. It's meant to be a keepsake for someone who was given a portion. It won't contain the full ashes of a person of any size, nor would it contain all of the ashes for the average sized pet either. If you want this to contain the full ashes, then you will need a bigger container, particularly for your human loved one.
